One of the least positive reviewers here, who said he wasn't vegan, said this was kind of like mom's homemade vegan cooking when she wasn't expecting company. Well, I agree, but I would call that a positive, not a negative. Not having grown up vegan, this is wonderfully delicious food from the vegan mom I never had. The place is... More

Masao's is incredible - I would travel many miles for this place. Affordable and always fresh. He puts a lot of love into this food.

This macrobiotic eatery has been around for decades, and the food continues to be fresh and delicious. The barbeque tofu is my favorite, and I get it whenever possible. The cost is really reasonable given how carefully prepared everything is, and while the atmosphere is basic, it's great for take-out or eating in.

This restaurant is really great. The buffet is what I always get. One of the hidden gems in the Boston area. I'm only upset that I didn't learn about it until I was about to move from Waltham. The owner is also very friendly. One of the few places with truly healthy food.

Came here for lunch on a weekday; a friend, carnivorous but willing to please me, in tow. The tiny restaurant filled up soon after 12:00. Buffet service with a good choice of very tasty vegan dishes, some of which were labeled with meaty names. I was very happy. The carnivore ordered a "bbq" sandwich with which he was very happy.... A treat to find a restaurant that has macrobiotic fare. One has much to choose from, my favorite is Noodles and Broth. The restaurant's cafeteria style but the choices are excellent. Not your typical vegetarian food; brown rice, beans, barbecue tofu, seitan, miso and on and on. We were not disappointed and have been back several times.

Masao's kitchen remains the only authentic macrobiotic restaurant in the Boston area. Very simple fare you can count on. Get there early, however, because he often runs out of food. Yesterday my macro platter included samplings of the following: tempeh with red cabbage, BBQ tofu, chick peas and French lentils, butternut squash, mushrooms with wine sauce, roasted potatoes, seaweed with... When my spouse and I first came here, he said "if you want to know my favorite restaurant, this is going to be it." I think it is okay. This is how I would describe it: very small restaurant, vegan, macrobiotic buffet. Everything is simply prepared (examples: salad with seaweed, barbecue tofu, brown rice, etc). This is the REAL DEAL.... More

Buffet style. You fill your plate, buy by the pound, which is great in that it allows you to sample a lot. I enjoyed that. Unfortunately, I didn't find the dishes very delicious. Some were better than others. To be clear, this isn't where you would go expecting anything fancy. This is your moms home cooked vegan meal, when she... More

This little restaurant on Moody Street is a well kept secret. Masao and his helpers make the food and it is real food, not procssed food. It is a mixture of vegetarian and macrobiotic foods served in buffet style. I always feel good when I eat here. My stomach likes the foods.
