Breakfast is Always Super!

The Black Dog has become our go-to breakfast place, especially in the off season. Quick service, great view of the harbor, very good food and generous portions. It's a treat every time we go...which when you're on a weight reduction plan, is much too often. But hey, life is short, right?

Food was ok, but not excellent. Go here more for the view. Waiter was helpful as we had our baby with us. She gave me a new portion of the soup as it was getting cold (had to feed the baby first).

the food is excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the location great. the view of the bay was lovely. plus it was walking distance from our hotel. Even in the off season, the place was packed every day. I particularly liked the all day brunch. food was freshly prepared and hot. the french toast was super yummy.

We were looking for a nice "romantic" dinner and we decided on Black Dog Tavern because what else says "Martha's Vineyard" like the Black Dog? When we arrived, it wasn't visually what we expected especially after reviewing the menu online. The temperature inside felt only a few degrees above the chilly March air outside. Our server seemed as if we... More

Had the chowder and the fish and chips. My husband had a side of amazing veggies and a fantastic salad. Everything was AMAZING. The chowder was just sublime! You have to stop here if you come to the vineyard. Dining right on the water. Just lovely. This was really the highlight of our off-season visit!

The view from the dining area is nice but the food is terrible. I usually think places with open kitchens produce good food but that was not the case here. My eggs benedict was sour, I substituted the Canadian Bacon with a sausage patty and it the patty was gray and dry! My boyfriend's burrito did not have any flavor... More

$100 for two fish and chips, a turkey burger and one dessert. That is the price you pay for having no other choices in the off season. I realize this place is famous, but, like so many things on MV, you are paying for hype and not quality. It is hard to enjoy a modest meal when paying such immodest... More

The BD has as salty an atmosphere as any I have visited. The decor is all real, not found in a catalogue, made to look old. The owners are steeped in maritime lore to a degree not often achieved. The food is appetizing, and amply portioned. The Menu has a variety that will suit every pallet...

Five other couples joined us for dinner at the Black Dog on 2/14/15. The service was professional and everyone said their food was very good. My prime rib was excellent. Great atmosphere as always. We asked for six separate checks and the waitress handles that with no problem at all.

The Black Dog lives up to its reputation as a GoTo stop on MV. The food is always excellent and we especially love the Breakfast Menu. Grab a seat by a window and watch the seashore as you enjoy excellent coffee and an excellent breakfast. Always Fair prices and good service.
