Breakfast is Always Super!

The Black Dog has become our go-to breakfast place, especially in the off season. Quick service, great view of the harbor, very good food and generous portions. It's a treat every time we go...which when you're on a weight reduction plan, is much too often. But hey, life is short, right?

The BD has as salty an atmosphere as any I have visited. The decor is all real, not found in a catalogue, made to look old. The owners are steeped in maritime lore to a degree not often achieved. The food is appetizing, and amply portioned. The Menu has a variety that will suit every pallet...

Five other couples joined us for dinner at the Black Dog on 2/14/15. The service was professional and everyone said their food was very good. My prime rib was excellent. Great atmosphere as always. We asked for six separate checks and the waitress handles that with no problem at all.

The Black Dog lives up to its reputation as a GoTo stop on MV. The food is always excellent and we especially love the Breakfast Menu. Grab a seat by a window and watch the seashore as you enjoy excellent coffee and an excellent breakfast. Always Fair prices and good service.

Always a positive visit. Staff are friendly, warm and attentive. Food reliably good with generous portions. Wine menu very good and reasonably priced.

A recent visit on a cold winter evening was significantly marred by a freezing cold room; most diners kept their coats on the entire time! The baseboard heaters were working, and there was a space heater in use to warm a particularly chilly corner, but those efforts were not nearly enough. We mentioned this when we sat down, and the... My husband and I spent a December night in Vineyard Haven following a business meeting for him. Not much open at this time! (Maybe not so good for choices, but lovely in its quiet way.) We have loved Le Grenier and will miss it; I understand that it will become an Italian restaurant next summer. We shall see. Anyway, the... More

My wife and I went to the Black Dog for lunch on a drizzly afternoon during our recent anniversary holiday to the Vineyard. We sat by the fire. It was lovely, dark and rainy outside, but warm inside. We were celebrating 26 years together. As always, the Quahog Chowder is exceptional at the Black Dog. I don't think the recipe's... More

The cozy, rustic ambiance and view here would make up for any food catastrophes, but it doesn't have to! A respectable assortment of traditional breakfast options, many are made from scratch and come in big heaping portions. The cups of soup came out cold, but this could have been because the place was packed - they took it back and... More
