My wife and I are from the area and we expected the Back Dog to be a tourist trap. To our pleasant surprise, the service was friendly and the food was great. We started with chowder and it was very good with lots of clams. My wife's lobster roll was a bit pricey at $25 but it was enormous and... More

We decided to go here after enjoying the sunset at the West Chop lookout. We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was! Both my girlfriend and I are vegetarians so there were few options for us. I got a "light entree" of bruschetta which was quite large and my girlfriend got a Caesar salad. The bruschetta was delicious... More

We had a convivial lunch at Black Dog Tavern. We had to wait for the brunch crowd to clear out but then we and dozens of others were ushered in to the nautical-themed restaurant just off the beach. We snagged a window table and watched several boats pull up, anchor on the beach, and their sailors entered the tavern. We... More

One cannot vacation at Martha's Vineyard without dinning at The Black Dog. And of course we ordered the PEI Mussels and Lobsters and a couple of nice brews on tap. The others in our party ordered other menu items which they raved about as well. And to our surprise their dessert selection was very interesting and tasty. Especially the fudge... More

If you've been to the Vineyard, you will know the Black Dog. I stopped by for dinner on my last night on the island, it was about half an hour wait for a table for one. Service was pleasant and I appreciated the warm bread to start. Their legendary quahog chowder was great, the garlic crusted catfish from their 'Summer... More

The Black Dog Tavern on Martha's Vineyard has excellent food, and great service. It's located right on the water, and is close to shopping in Vineyard Haven.

The Black Dog Tavern a part of the Vineyard mystique. Food excellent, staff good. Be prepared to wait if you do not get there early. Suggest you buy their cookbook, excellent recipes.

Our breakfast was a major disappointment. Started off with water served in a cracked plastic glass dripping through the table onto my foot. The waiter was nowhere to be found so went up to the service table and took care of the problem. My wife ordered toast that was hardly toasted, more like stale bread. I ordered their signature home... More
