A Restaurant that is a Trip Back in Time!

I've been to the Wayside Inn a dozen or more times over the years. The setting is fabulous with many small, private rooms. We even had our daughters Rehearsal Dinner here. Nine times out of 10, I come away saying it was good or very good, but hardly ever excellent. Very little of the menu has... read more

From the Inn to the Chapel to the Schoolhouse to the the Grist Mill it has all this and more. My absolute favorite part of this historic ensemble is the Tap/Tavern Room with Marvin standing guard behind the bar. I order the Meetinghouse Punch, my partner orders the local Lager and all is right in our world. Love Marvin. He... More

There is nothing like this place - is age, the ambiance, the beautiful furnishings, the property - it just exudes history. It is so worth a trip and learning all about it. The meals are nothing special - the menu is plain - it just isn't fine dining. However, the food is edible and good quality - it just isn't... More

Ate here with my family of five. One of us ate his meal. My chicken breast was dry, uninspired, though recommended by the waitress. The risotto cakes that two in my party ordered were tasteless, though presented nicely. It is worth a visit to this historic inn, if only to admire the fireplace near the bar. The staff is polite... Reservations are a must at this time of year. We arrived on time and were brought promptly to our table in the main dining room. Holiday decorations were festive but looked rather shop worn. Our waitress was attentive but the meal was just average. Two of us ordered a glass of chardonnay wine that was served warm. Two of us... More

Yes, I know, it is the oldest in America, and on, and on, and on... But when you are going to the restaurant, you are looking for a great food. I was there in November 2015, and food was just ordinary. Cesar's salad was mushy and bland. Beef Filet was OK, but vegetable on the side were uneatable. My wife's... More

It was tough to feel welcome. The process of getting a table (with a reservation) and the process of getting our meals was more work than pleasure. The food was good enough but it's not clear what type of cooking/cuisine is being offered -- is it Colonial fare, is it gastropub, is it whatever? The "Thanksgiving sandwich" was tasty (turkey... Living so close to this attraction, i visit it often. restaurant has great New England dining, reasonable priced in colonial ambiance. A great place to visit from early December to early January when each room is decorated by local garden clubs, including my own. I and another person from Colonial Garden Club decorate the small sitting room and office on... More

This local treasure has been serving food and drink to travelers for over 300 years. Most memorably it served Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who immortalized it in his "Tales of a Wayside Inn". The inn has been brought up to most 21st Century standards, but the menu remains rooted in traditional Colonial fare (with chicken fingers for the finicky child). Roast... More

We've been going here for a few decades as we live not too far away. We continue to go because it's consistently excellent. Our two dinners here over the last couple of months have just reaffirmed that. If anything, a few of the recipes have improved over the years. Lady had the harvest salad and the encrusted salmon and doubled... More
