With the love of chocolate and a loan, we started The Chocolate Sparrow, a simple candy shop, in 1989 in North Eastham. Gradually we learned the art of making fine chocolate and the business of selling it. In 1991 we opened a summer shop in Wellfleet. Two years later in Orleans, we opened The Hot Chocolate Sparrow, a cafe complete with coffee from around the world, desserts of every indulgence, and our own hand-dipped chocolates. Here we could offer specialty coffee drinks in a sophisticated but welcoming atmosphere. We have grown into a local institution, open early morning to late night, every day of the year except Christmas. We created a place where people can connect. Our cafe is recognized Cape-wide, our chocolate is sent all over the country, and our coffee, desserts, and fudge have been voted #1 numerous times in various local surveys. No wonder we are recognized as "The Best on the Lower Cape."

This place is yummy

This place is always crowded. Food and drinks are food although desserts not as good as I expected. More seating needed.

Excellent pastries. Somewhat overpriced. Ice cream is maybe second best to one near Cottage bakery. try Hot Chocolate sparrow for yourself!

Great ice cream and pastry - good coffee as well. There is always a line as this place is very trendy and popular, but I think it is worth the wait.

My sister and I stopped by here at least once a day during our stay in Orleans. Mornings we'd grab a cappuccino and a scone-ginger were my favorites. We always managed to get a seat outside on the front porch where we'd spend time catching up.In the afternoon we'd often bring her sons along with us and we all LOVED... More

Because of the recommendation of Ship's Knees Inn staff, we stopped here on our bike ride. It was a great place for snacks and drinks. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was friendly!

as a life long cape fodder this is one of the places I always take my visitors to have a cup of coffee and pick up a sweet delight. I have sent candy from HCS to elders in Chicago and friends in Cali and they have asked for more. so now… I have a ongoing chocolate fix I need to... More

A way station, pretty much daily, on all my Cape Cod bike trail trips for many years. Knowing I'll get a Chocolate Sparrow "reward" helps me pedal longer and faster! With my newly-diagnosed lactose intolerance, I feared that visits would become painful, their lactose-free mocha, lime rickeys, sorbet, and delicious soups and sandwiches left me no opportunity to feel deprived.

Hot Chocolate Sparrow has become the reliable start or end to many of our Cape adventures...a great place for coffees, teas, pastries, chocolates of all descriptions, and ice cream. Maybe they had it before, but a recent discovery for me was their dairy free Iced Chocolate Mocha....VERY chocolate-y and very good...the perfect coda to a paddle or bike ride. We... More

I'd avoided going to this; just another expensive chocolate place; however, it was open late, after going to the theatre, and I discovered a new love: cranberry walnut dark chocolate bark! And an old love, the best dark-chocolate covered apricots ever. The apricots were sweet and moist, very fresh. Even a plain dark chocolate bar was really good.
