Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. One of our first restaurants and still a popular lure, we are located on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. We are still keeping things fresh at our bar, our open dining room and in our take-out counter and Fish Market. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

What can one say about Legals, given its a chain??! What I would say is that the food and wine were just fine per the usual Legal's tradition. However, the service was awful. Second time at this location where the service was a real issue. The servers are very informal, not respectful, do not pay attention to detail and overall... More

As we've come to expect of Legal Seafood, there is always a wide choice, the entrees are cooked to near perfection, and the wait staff is typically flawless. However, this Friday night the waitstaff was stretched and the timing for our dinners was off, so that the appetizers were served with the entrees. At most other restaurants, there would have... My family took me for my birthday. I love the way they prepare the fish. The clam chowder was great and you can buy it "to go". The only negative is that there is often a line. Since there are so many in my family, we had a reservation and could walk in.

Legal Seafoods at Chestnut Hill (like all Legal Seafoods) has predictably excellent seafood. The chicken and steaks are OK, but really, you go there for the seafood. While meals here are not inexpensive, they're worth it. New England Clam Chowder is great; Boston baked scrod is great; scallops, lobster - all are great. Go early and go on a weeknight.

Legal is a great merchandising company, but the restaurant itself seeks to be more that it is. The food is good, the service is above average, the welcome staff is well trained, and friendly. I opine that the pricing is a bit high, and that the ambiance is that of a mid-scale, while it tries to be seen as upscale,

We've been here probably a dozen times. The food is good, not spectacular, but solid. The service on weekend nights, on the other hand is usually poor. Again tonight, we ordered a couple of salads and our main courses, only to have the entrees show up before the salads. While the waiter who took our order was apologetic, the guy... More

There are a lot of new restaurants that have sprung up around Legal the past year... and most welcome. But don't think they will not dent the business of this excellent and reliable spot. Like most Legal Seafoods outposts this place delivers consistently good seafood with good service and atmosphere. If they screw up (my veggies were cold) they take... More

The good news: my fish was fresh and cooked to just the right level of doneness. Fried clams were also fresh and well cooked. The not-so-good news: there was no hint of herbs encrusting my supposedly herb-encrusted mahi-mahi. The sides were OK but unremarkable, and entire presentation pretty bland. The fries accompanying the fried clams could have been crisper. We... More
