The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. One of our first restaurants and still a popular lure, we are located on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. We are still keeping things fresh at our bar, our open dining room and in our take-out counter and Fish Market. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

If you know what to order, a good meal awaits

Legal Seafoods has been around a long time. It started as a very low end restaurant complete with plastic forks and knives. The Chestnut Hill location was the first upscale restaurant from the chain. The fish is usually well prepared despite the small bones I often discover in my trout. This is... read more

Not sure if its this location in particular.. but make sure you aren't here between 5-7pm since the cane ratio is about 65%. The food was BLAND.. get something blackened or char'd to wake it up!! No vibe unless you're 50's and divorced... then you might dig it..

You can't go wrong at Legal. The fish is always absolutely fresh. Servings are generous. I love their grilled fish, especially the trout. The casserole is always a special treat.

We visit friends in Boston three times a year and we always have full bellied breaded clams at least once on every trip. The clam chowder as an appetizer is the best we've ever had. We appreciate that there are other locations, but contrary to some other reviews, our friends from Boston say that Chestnut Hill is the best.

We had a family meal for an occasion. Food was very good as usual - scrod, Mahi Mahi, seafood platter, etc but the service was disjointed and disorganized. Polite and friendly but not up to the usual standards.

Went with my kids and their college friends, as my son forgot to make a reservation a a few days beforehand we could only get an 830 reservation for 6. DEFiNATELY reserve ahead of time - as it was we still had to wait for 20 minutes to get our table - walkins were 30-45 minutes. The food was terrific!... More

This is not a rock-star unique menu, but it is always reliable and satisfying. As a bonus, the wine selection is also better-than-expected. I sometimes stop by for take-out at the "cook it yourself station" but don't often remember to do this.

In recent years, I have avoided Legals -- especially the one in Chestnut Hill -- except for mid-afternoon lunches in the dead of summer when it actually can be a nice place to dine. Unfortunately, I found myself here on a busy Saturday night in February when the whole of snow-weary Boston decided to turn out on force. I hadn't... More

This was a very nice restaurant. I had eaten at one in Washington DC before but this was nicer. It has a good size bar in the middle with a full bar and large beer selection. 8 beers on draft. Some local beers from the Boston area. The price was a little high for a family of four but was... More
