Description: The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. One of our first restaurants and still a popular lure, we are located on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. We are still keeping things fresh at our bar, our open dining room and in our take-out counter and Fish Market. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

This restaurant has been a family favorite for marking special occasions for more than 20 years. We know the food will always be predictably tasty, if not very good for a vegetarian eater. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, although don't come here for quiet conversation! All of the entree and appetizer items are going to be served hot, just... More

I love the oyster selection, the clam chowder, and the bluefish especially. The wine list is quite good. I paif an Alsace with shellfish quite successfully. You can't go wrong with any of their appetizers. Consistently strong.

We went for lunch at this restaurant and found it to be both convivial with a good price-quality ratio. Our waiter, Christian, was a professionnal. He knew his food and could suggest what would suit us best. We had fish and chips, crab cakes and tuna pad thai. All were perfectly cooked and abundant. We didnt have wine but beer... More

Legal Sea Foods is a staple around Boston. The one in Chestnut Hill is the only one of the chain that offers baked potatoes which I crave with fish. The dinners are usually reliable but don't expect a good experience at lunch time. Service was fine and the wine list extensive enough with reasonable restaurant prices. Tables just a bit... More

You want Boston fresh fish or shellfish, this is the place! They have their own fish market right at the docks in Gloucester, where the fishing boats come in, and they know how to cook it right. Big selection. Service is always very good. While I visit Chestnut Hill the most - being closest to me - you can get... More

Have eaten at Legal Seafoods many times - it's mom's favorite place. She even takes a class at Brandeis Univ with the now semi-retired owner. So, expectations are always high when we go. This time, it was busy on a Wednesday night at 6pm. We were seated in a dark corner of the restaurant (not mom's favorite area - we... More

Our family of 18 made reservations for dinner one night at about 8pm. We showed up and the table was already ready for us. We had great service and our drinks were never empty. The food was excellent. I have no problem recommending the restaurant.

We’ve eaten at Legal Sea Foods in Chestnut Hill a number of times over the years (I have fond memories of Legals first coming to Chestnut Hill; it was a very casual place, closer to the atmosphere of the original Inman Square restaurant than any other Legals). Our most recent time, a dinner with friends, was not the best, due... More

We traveled to Boston to look at homes and figured we would try this tourist place. We sat down at 5:36 and didn't receive our food until 7:27. Although they "comped" our appetizers, with little kids this was just a harrowing experience. The food was average. Definitely not among the best places I have had new england seafood. Also, a...
