The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. One of our first restaurants and still a popular lure, we are located on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. We are still keeping things fresh at our bar, our open dining room and in our take-out counter and Fish Market. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Great food but a few dissapointments

Legal is always my go to place for excellent seafood and tonight was no exception. I recommend making reservations to avoid a wait. I ordered a cup of the Lobster Bisque which is always superb. However, I did have to remind the waiter to bring it to me almost 5 minutes after my wife received her... read more

My husband and most Bostonians LOVE Legal Seafoods, a sentiment I don't share because I do not love fish and hate the stench of fish that is usually so overpowering at Legal. My dear husband arranged a lunch there with out of town friends and my dread turned to delight with the huge taco/Apple avocado with chicken salad that I... More

I've been taking my family here for some 30 years and it remains popular, for good reason. This restaurant serves consistently excellent fish cooked properly. Our perennial favorite is the Boston Scrod. Lots of gluten free choices. Attentive staff. You can't go wrong here

Had the lobster bake was very good as usual. Have been here before not much has changed . From the grilled cheese sandwich my granddaughter to the bread rolls, this place has it. My wife did mention that the ladies restroom was a little dirty, with the exhaust fan in ceiling looking like it has never been cleaned.

We were there on Sat night and It was busy as usual. Enzo and Mike the managers treated us like Family as usual. Hanna our server Was delightful and full of personality. Food was fresh and flavorful. No Other seafood restaurant can compete With Legal and it's not a chain.

This part of the chain and the food here was fresh, well prepared and enjoyable. Small selection of draft beers but with some interesting choices. Service was quite good. Only drawback was noise level, in part because of wooden tables which were fairly well packed in. Food here not cheap but cannot argue with freshness and quality.

Not sure if its this location in particular.. but make sure you aren't here between 5-7pm since the cane ratio is about 65%. The food was BLAND.. get something blackened or char'd to wake it up!! No vibe unless you're 50's and divorced... then you might dig it..

You can't go wrong at Legal. The fish is always absolutely fresh. Servings are generous. I love their grilled fish, especially the trout. The casserole is always a special treat.

We visit friends in Boston three times a year and we always have full bellied breaded clams at least once on every trip. The clam chowder as an appetizer is the best we've ever had. We appreciate that there are other locations, but contrary to some other reviews, our friends from Boston say that Chestnut Hill is the best.
