The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish. One of our first restaurants and still a popular lure, we are located on Route 9 in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. We are still keeping things fresh at our bar, our open dining room and in our take-out counter and Fish Market. Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. We’ve received a boatload of accolades including “Most Popular Boston Restaurant” (Zagat, 2012/2013), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Improper Bostonian, 2010), “Best Chowder” (Boston Magazine, 2010), “Best Seafood Restaurant” (Boston Phoenix, 2009) and the honor of serving our legendary New England Clam Chowder at every presidential inauguration since 1981.

Legally Good ! Limited Menu choices .... but good

I had a Clam Chowder to start -- it was delicious. Followed by "Salmon Blackened" with a green veg and coleslaw. The fish was really fresh and really good. Attentive service. Ample parking outside (located in a strip mall). Wifi is "hop-a-long to store next door ! (but works). As a first time... read more

We stopped here for lunch recently - just before noon. I enjoyed a baked scrod with crumb topping - very nicely seasoned and moist - absolutely delicious. It was accompanied by brown rice. Also fresh spinach was on the plate - cooked to perfection as I was taught years ago - the water on the washed spinach leaves is all... More

Best crab cakes I've ever had! The food was fresh and quite tasty. The atmosphere was a little loud but everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our waiter was prompt and very polite.

What Legal Seafoods does it does well, but it too often falls into a routine. The lobster roll is a middle-high standard New England, as are the chowders. The beverages are fine and so are desserts. The catch of the day can be good though there is a heavy hand with the salt. Some fishes need it while others do... More

Legal Sea Foods is "a chain that doesn't act like a chain." The quality is consistent throughout the chain and the selection of fish is unsurpassed. The only downside to this restaurant is that it is on the backside of a strip mall … be very careful if you rely on a GPS to get there. Using two different devices,... More

I've been going to Legal Sea Foods for decades and I can honestly say, it just keeps on getting better and better all the time. It is unequivocally the "go-to" restaurant for fish/seafood in the Boston area. While other restaurants may have smaller venues or a more romantic environment, the food here is extraordinary and the person you take there... More

I have eaten at other legal seafood restaurants, and always found the food to be good, service professional, etc. Such is NOT the case in the one in Chestnut Hill. The place is noisy beyond belief, with glaring TV monitors, and loud conversation. Opt to sit outside if you go-you will be more comfortable. The first time I had dinner... More

Simply outstanding. With so few reviews and such a new business I was concerned... trust me, DON'T be. This is an amazing, quaint restaurant with outstanding service (thank you Enzo & Hannah!!) and food that is just delicious! Our group had several of the appetizers - the favorites were the variety of oysters. Yummy. Most of us had the special... More

I've been eating at Legal's for 45 years, since I first came to Boston for college. They are known for the freshest seafood -- I've never had fish on my plate that was anything less than top quality. However, over the years, entrees have gotten a bit pricey, and the portion size on some of the standards has gittem smaller... More

I enjoy going to Legals often, but would also enjoy trying some new dishes. Maybe something spicy? The seafood sampler is a large portion, if you are hungry. Can't go wrong with the clam chowder. I've also been here with a large party (20+ people), and they have a nice area in the back that they can partition off to... More
