Tucked in a corner alleyway of Newton Center, Cafe Sol Azteca is a cozy and enchanting authentic Mexican mainstay for over 20 years. Featuring cuisine from the Mexico's capital you'll be won over by their cilantro and mole sauces that will make you think you just stepped back into the old country. A full bar features the classic requests of sangria, margaritas, and cervezas while adding plenty more like Mezcal drinks and their "to die for" Mango Mojitos. Nightly chef specials along with an extensive traditional and specialty menu leave your taste buds with plenty to experience. Catch them in the warm weather and join them on their outdoor patio featured on local television programs as the place to be.

Good when you crave Mexican flood and you are in the Boston area

The food is always tasty but by no means outstanding. It is an attractive and friendly place. It is not too hard to get a table even on busy nights. When the weather is warm, get a table outside.

We met our friends here and it was a really nice dining experience. Café Sol Azteca is a bit hard to find -- you have to navigate your way in back of a landmark building in Newton Center, and it's a little bit of a maze. And then downstairs and into this cozy basement area that's nicely Mexican. But it's... More

An unlimited flow of chips and spicy salty salsa can ruin your apetite and make finishing a 3-dish combo a challenge. The plates are generous. The sauces are not memorable and the refritos sticky and dark with little flavor unless you add some of that salsa. The liter bottle of our drink had too much fruit juice and no fruit,... More

The Sol Azteca patio is a nice place to be on a summer night but that is about as far as it goes. We ordered guacamole and it has several hairs in it. Not an auspicious beginning. We ordered three different meals and all were mediocre. Mine was chicken tacos and they were essentially tasteless. Bland and served in an... More

This is a wonderful restaurant that does not disappoint. My family and I have been regulars for years. The food is prepared freshly and authentically. Cadillac margarita is the best you'll find in the region. Enchiladas, asada, mole all terriffic. This place should be on everyone's top list of local newton restaurants. Service is wonderful. Viva la Azteca in Newton,... More

My tastes have changes, and I now find that these dishes are just too heavy and not quite subtle enough. But once upon a time I would have experienced this as a must-visit destination. Good location and fun outdoor seating.

Sol Azteca has standard Mexican far - no better or worse than other Mexican restaurants in America. I had the beef enchiladas which were good with refried black beans and rice. A little bland but not bad. My friends also had different kinds of enchiladas - both enjoyed. Salsa is good. Fast and good service. I've heard that when the... More

Been here 4 times or so over the past 3 years or so, and this last visit was staggeringly bad. This place has in the past had decent, but waay overpriced Mexican. The service was also quite sedate (or slow, depending on your mood). This past visit took these issues to a whole new level. The damage for 2 entrees,... More

My husband and I tried this restaurant because it has outdoor seating. The patio area is fairly small and confined within high brick walls on three sides and a lower wall on the fourth side. It was nice to be outside on a warm summer evening, but there was no view. The margaritas were good and the food was pretty... More
