Good food, a little pricey

Great, authentic mexican, I love coming here to eat, lots of choices, however it is a little pricey.

The Sol Azteca patio is a nice place to be on a summer night but that is about as far as it goes. We ordered guacamole and it has several hairs in it. Not an auspicious beginning. We ordered three different meals and all were mediocre. Mine was chicken tacos and they were essentially tasteless. Bland and served in an... More

This is a wonderful restaurant that does not disappoint. My family and I have been regulars for years. The food is prepared freshly and authentically. Cadillac margarita is the best you'll find in the region. Enchiladas, asada, mole all terriffic. This place should be on everyone's top list of local newton restaurants. Service is wonderful. Viva la Azteca in Newton,... More

My tastes have changes, and I now find that these dishes are just too heavy and not quite subtle enough. But once upon a time I would have experienced this as a must-visit destination. Good location and fun outdoor seating.

Sol Azteca has standard Mexican far - no better or worse than other Mexican restaurants in America. I had the beef enchiladas which were good with refried black beans and rice. A little bland but not bad. My friends also had different kinds of enchiladas - both enjoyed. Salsa is good. Fast and good service. I've heard that when the... More

Been here 4 times or so over the past 3 years or so, and this last visit was staggeringly bad. This place has in the past had decent, but waay overpriced Mexican. The service was also quite sedate (or slow, depending on your mood). This past visit took these issues to a whole new level. The damage for 2 entrees,... More

My husband and I tried this restaurant because it has outdoor seating. The patio area is fairly small and confined within high brick walls on three sides and a lower wall on the fourth side. It was nice to be outside on a warm summer evening, but there was no view. The margaritas were good and the food was pretty... More

Very pleasantly surprised by our dinner at Cafe Sol Azteca. Started with guacamole which was a disappointment. Needed salt and some acid. Meals were great. We had Enchiladas Verdes, Chilis Relienos and Tacos Rancheros. The cilantro sauce is really good. I was able to substitute the green sauce for cilantro sauce. Mole sauce underwhelming. Cabbage is great. Gold Margarita to... More

While the standard margaritas are great tasting it was served in a small water glass rather than a magarita glass. My daughter ordered one with Patron and that came in the proper glass. We dined outside which was delightful. The service was very prompt, pleasant and efficient. We started with a gaucamole which was plentiful. I had the enchilda suza... More

A small outdoor patio area nestled off an alley and between buildings makes a great dining venue. Excellent mojitos and frozen margaritas. A creative menu with fresh, delicious authentic Mexican dishes. Our table had beef, chicken and seafood entrees with a variety of sauces, including a dark mole sauce and the best green tomatillo sauce I have ever had. The... More
