Fancypants not up to the hype.

We received a gift from some important business associates and decided to use it on our anniversary. The ambiance was nice. The waitstaff was attentive. But the menu was so limited that it was difficult to choose a dinner. The experience was disappointing.

My wife and I were treated to a dinner at Lumiere by our daughter and son in law. They told us that this was one of their favorite restaurants. It is located in a nondescript storefront in West Newton, but appearances are deceiving. We had their chef's tasting menu, which was outstanding. The second course was a roasted scallop in... More

Several of us dined together in their semi-private room on a Friday evening. Very nice set menu with wine pairing. Fresh seasonal ingredients which were thoughtfully prepared and nicely presented. Attentive service throughout the evening. Parking is a challenge as there are several restaurants and a movie theatre in the area.

A memorable dinner. We arrived a bit early and ordered the bluefish pate which was thrilling. We then ordered the shellfish bouillabaisse with a rich tangy roux in a tomato-based broth. Each piece of shellfish tasted of itself, crab, lobster and shrimp and was cooked perfectly. The rich broth enveloped it and helped pick out the flavors. The chocolate dessert... More

Admittedly, West Newton is not known for its electrifying night-life or its five-star cuisine. And how could it be? By dinnertime, it’s completely deserted. This makes the town the unexpected and undeserving host of one of the best restaurants in the greater Boston area. Unlike many of its high-style, downtown counterparts, Lumiere is not boastful or showy. Its personality draws... More

The good news is that the quality of the dinner food is excellent. As far as the service is concerned, the waiter did his duty. He wrote down the orders and bring the dishes. In small print on the menu it states that a group of 6 or more will find a service charge of 18% added to the check.... More

Good atmosphere, very good service, and delicious food. This is a 5* restaurant that rarely disappoints. Not as expensive as the fine restaurants in the downtown Boston area, but the experience is just as good here.

My wife likes fine dining, and I like casual--but it was her birthday and off we went to Lumiere. Lumiere is one of those relatively rare places where the cooking is absolutely first class, but the food comes without much of the attitude that often accompanies places that serve up-scale food. Our server was attentive, friendly, and informative. He explained... More

Lumiere is in my neighborhood and I've been there several times over the years. It's very good and reliable. Not extraordinary just good. Service is very good. Noise level is very good. A very nice place for a pleasant evening. The steak tartare was excellent.
