Tour de force

Daikanyama sits quietly in a corner of Bloomingdales in Newton, MA. Its decor is modern, elegant, and minimalist. The venue feels like a shrine or temple more than it does a restaurant, and would therefore not recommend bringing children Service is prompt and subtle. The specials are presented to... read more

The decor is sleek and fitting for a high-end mall, but the service is mediocre and the food quality is uneven. For instance, on my second visit tonight I ordered the agedashi tofu, which was good the first time I came, but this time the tofu was old or of the wrong texture and the dish had been improperly fried.... My mother, brother, and I ate here on a quiet Sunday evening while most folks were tuning into the Pats game. So the restaurant was quiet and not too busy. I compliment the restaurant on its interesting take on sushi and I think the quality of the fish was quite good, but not outstanding. It was nice to try some... More

This is a hidden treasure because if you look for any large signage, the small entrance is hidden under the massive Bloomingdales wall. We made a reservation to use the small enclosed booth for a small family gathering and it was the perfect spot to talk in quiet and peace, Of course the food was it's excellent self as usual.... Who would have guessed that a Japanese restaurant in Bloomie's would be such a find? We ordered a pile of sushi that was so beautifully presented that I wish I'd taken a photo. I was astonished after I had eaten a couple of pieces to discover that the beautiful design I thought was part of the plate was an artful... More

I have been here for lunch a number of times. Sushi has been ok. Service is often hurried, not great-- but has been acceptable. I would say usually comparable and sometimes a bit inferior to other restaurants waitstaff-wise. Today, we were sat in a part of the restaurant which was cold. I asked the hostess to move us to the... More

It's amazing. We love the atmosphere and the service. Food is the best that I had. I'm so happy to live nearby that I can eat here often.

Not a big restaurant but very nicely designed. The waitress was so lovely and explained everything clearly. A small tablet showed photos of the specials in beautiful pictures. I chose fish, which came with miso soup and salad. Though was small and delicious was $30. so beware. my husband had sukiyaki, thin slices of beef floating on broth with vegetables and... More

My husband and I always share their perfect sushi/sashimi platter for two. The meal begins with hot towels and green tea if you request it. Their salad has real greens, no iceberg, delicately dressed. Miso soup follows. The ample platter is beautifully presented with a lovely orchid (just to look at) and two oba leaves (no plastic!) to wrap around... More

I LOVE this place. I have been here 4 times now, and have had consistently delicious sushi. It is so pretty and tranquil, and the food and staff are great. I believe that fresh fish should be a given at any sushi restaurant, and they definitely do a great job in that department. What I think makes them better than... More
