I lived in China for seven years and have a pretty good idea what authentic Chinese food tastes like. This isn't it. The dish I ordered had a little pepper next to it on the menu indicating spicy but trust me, even a Big Mac is hotter. A spicy dish in a restaurant with "Szechuan" in its name should... read more

Stopped here for a late lunch while Christmas shopping in Newburyport. Having never eaten here before, I didn't know what to expect. I ordered the Happy Noodles luncheon special that came with soup. They also offered a pot of complimentary tea, which few places do these days. Anyway, the Happy Noodles dish was the best I've had, and I was... More

After a bad experience here several years ago I decided to try it again. I ordered the orange chicken thinking how hard can that be. Well it made me ill and I'm still paying for it a day later. The food quality here is absolutely awful and there are so many good choices in Newburyport. Do not let the location... More

We should've left right after the waitress asked whether we needed nailing and silverware... I naively believed it was a normal practice to have these items on the table. Apparently not here. The food... Pad Thai specifically... It smelled like wet dog. No joke. It was impossible to even have it on the table. When we asked the waitress to... More

The food here is average at best across the board. The details are lacking in a big way. From the Chinese offerings ... Wonton soup features the most tasteless broth I have ever had. Crab rangoons were dry, over fried and missing the 'crab'. Everything I have had seems bland. For Chinese Food in Newburyport, China One wins even though... More

When you give an estimate of 20 minutes on the phone, it should never take 1 hour. Don't believe the estimates. Seems that sushi orders can significantly delay your order. I would not order from here if you are in a hurry.

We visited Szechuan Taste on a late Saturday evening. It can always concerning when you visit a restaurant at the end of a night. However, Szechuan Taste did not disappoint. The food was fresh and nicely presented. The waiter was very friendly and added to the experience. The Hunan Chicken was nicely spiced and had plenty of mixed vegetables. The... More

I'm pretty much in agreement with the other reviewers here. It seems to be a matter of taste. There are a number of restaurants that serve Szechuan this way back home, and I wasn't really impressed with any of those either. For example, I ordered the Bean Curd Szechuan Style expecting it to be "hot" as Szechuan is supposed to... More

We were the only diners there, at 6:00 pm, and now I know why. The food was seriously bad, and all of the dishes seemed to have the same "sauce". Some of our party of 5 were brought things that we didn't even order. The bartender was not familiar with the different brands of gin. We will not be back.

We just moved to Newburyport, and was not sure about trying Szechuan after reading some of the reviews... but figured how bad can Pork Fried Rice be? So we went ahead, ordered takeout and were very satisfied with the quality and quantity. We stuck with the classics-Fried Rice, Fried Shrimp and Chicken in Garlic Sauce. Everything was very good, not... More
