Great location on the water!

The food here is always consistently good and the service is always spot on even when crazy busy. From salads to chowder to fish dishes, I have never been disappointed. Drove up to Newburyport with my mom, brother and 9 month old son. We were in search for a place on the water with a menu that would satisfy everyone's taste buds. Walking in the door, the restaurant is very dark. With a lot of dark woods and lack of lighting. We approached the hostess stand to find nobody there... More

Very good atmosphere, nice bar and tables outside on the water. Great views. I started with a bowl of clam chowder, and did not like the taste at all. Followed with baby back ribs, with tender meat that easily fell off the bone but I could not stand the BBQ sauce. Even the smell of it bothered me. My wife... More

We stopped after a day trip to cape ann and all enjoyed our meals. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and realized for a dollar more I could get a bowl. I should have just gotten a cup! The bowl was HUGE! The chowder was very good, thick and creamy, and full of fresh clams. The problem was it... More

Had lunch with some family while visiting the area and enjoyed the patio and atmosphere. The food to me was average and just not sparks, not sure I would go back. Would likely try another spot along the water.

There is nothing special about the Black Cow but it is at a great spot overlooking Newburyport. The large deck holds a lot of people and it is a pleasure to sit outside on a nice day and eat seafood. The service is very good and food well prepared. Good coffee. Usual fare with lots of seafood.

We sat on deck just for drinks, dessert and watching fireworks. Dessert was excellent and staff was fantastic.

Black Cow is a great place to have a drink and dinner after a log day on the beach. The back deck is relaxing and always fun to watch the renters try to dock the boats.

The Black Cow is a large restaurant with a generous covered deck in the back, that offers a sweeping view of Merrimack River. Service was friendly and efficient and we had a cocktail in hand in just minutes. The fish (cod) sandwich is excellent!! It had a light, non-greasy breading and was topped with the usual lettuce, tomato, red onion... More
