Still a favorite!

Went there for a late lunch with our grown children and the food was really great. It's such a great spot to grab lunch or dinner and the location can't be beat, right on the river! It went through a small rough patch when the food wasn't consistent, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that... read more

Ok so I have always wanted to try this place when we come to Newbury Port, and $65 later, I wish I hadn't. We sat at a high top which was fine, but the food lacked any kind of seasoning. Also when someone orders well done steak, please make it well done. Both of our steaks were pink, I barely ate mine. Honestly... More

Visiting Newburyport for the first time, we went into the Black Cow & Tap but left after getting a shocking welcome from a member of staff who clearly doesn't enjoy her job. It was a busy day, the1st good day in 2015, but her attitude stinks. Never actually managed to buy a beer.

The food used to be better, now it's just a good place for drinks. The view compensates for the lack of food quality.

I have never been for dinner. Lunch a bunch of times. Pretty fair food. Service is good, but can be affected by crowded lunchtime in the warmer months.

We had a great experience at The Black Cow. I have been here before but not for a little while. We had a great meal served by an excellent waitress. We had drinks before dinner with no pressure to order. We shared some apps (Crab Cakes and Calamari....very good!) Again, no pressure to order and very attentive on our drinks.... More

The Black Cow has certainly got a great location - sitting right on the harbor in Newburyport so you can watch the boats slip by and the sun shine. I have always found the service friendly and and timely. But on top of all that, I really enjoy their food. Definitely a step or two above the usual casual family... More

The atmosphere was great. Right on the river. Nice open restaurant. Several TVs to watch the games or race. Turtle Martini was wonderful. Went down too easily, had to order a second one. Had the lobster pot pie. It was filed with chunks of lobster but I wasn't crazy about it. The sauce didn't go with the lobster very well.... More

The location and ambiance is the reason for a 2 rating. I first visited the Black Cow last Fall, and was underwhelmed. At that time, I thought the food was average, service was average, and the typical overpriced Newburyport establishment. Last month, I decided to give the Black Cow another chance. Well, let's just say there won't be a third... More

Barn style but the location is so good you can ignore this. Service is friendly and good. the food choice is extensive and reasonable quality but frequently spoilt by being overdone with the mixture of additional flavours
