Delicious food, delightful view

The Black Cow has certainly got a great location - sitting right on the harbor in Newburyport so you can watch the boats slip by and the sun shine. I have always found the service friendly and and timely. But on top of all that, I really enjoy their food. Definitely a step or two above the usual... read more

We had a great experience at The Black Cow. I have been here before but not for a little while. We had a great meal served by an excellent waitress. We had drinks before dinner with no pressure to order. We shared some apps (Crab Cakes and Calamari....very good!) Again, no pressure to order and very attentive on our drinks.... More

The atmosphere was great. Right on the river. Nice open restaurant. Several TVs to watch the games or race. Turtle Martini was wonderful. Went down too easily, had to order a second one. Had the lobster pot pie. It was filed with chunks of lobster but I wasn't crazy about it. The sauce didn't go with the lobster very well.... More

The location and ambiance is the reason for a 2 rating. I first visited the Black Cow last Fall, and was underwhelmed. At that time, I thought the food was average, service was average, and the typical overpriced Newburyport establishment. Last month, I decided to give the Black Cow another chance. Well, let's just say there won't be a third... More

Barn style but the location is so good you can ignore this. Service is friendly and good. the food choice is extensive and reasonable quality but frequently spoilt by being overdone with the mixture of additional flavours

Went for drinks and dinner with a business colleague and spouses. The location is ideal, right on the waterfront in Newburyport. We sat at the high top tables in the bar area right next to the fireplace. Noise level was tolerable, service was very good, great selection of craft beers on tap and wines by the glass. The food was... More

After three great dinners at other restaurants in Newburyport my expectations were high, but I was disappointed. Winter, 6:15 on a Friday night, parking lot full, so maybe I was the odd man out. Got inside and saw the bar area packed, 3 tv's going, so it was a Friday night bar stop for a lot of people. Inside of... More

My boyfriend and I eat out often and have an eclectic variety of food that we enjoy. We have just moved to a near by town and was tipped off by a few locals to try this place out telling us the food and atmosphere is great. We fell in love as soon as we walked in, the place is... More

Good location, great bar -- menu hasn't changed in eons, but it's sufficiently decent to make the Cow a reliable choice in Newburyport. The outside dining deck is a big plus.

Great food, affordable, casual and never disappointing. The service is top notch. Setting is open and comfortable. I've been a few times and am never worried I won't find something to enjoy on the menu. Plenty of options for cold brews and drinks.
