The food here is a predictable but tasty Mexican fare. You wont have alot of privacy here for a romantic interlude as you will be almost elbow to elbow with the people at the next table. If you like a busy, happening and active restaurant with lots going on around you, then this is a good spot. There are bars... More

Great restaurant... Good food, great drinks. Great table side guacamole! Went there on a Friday night with reservation... Good atmosphere.

We had a reservation for this past Saturday evening. We were early so we had to wait a bit, but we luckily got a table quickly ordered drinks and a bowl of guacamole. The chips were freshly made and still really hot. The quac was really good (not the best I've ever had, but we inhaled the huge portion we... More

Don't let the very nice atmosphere fool you. The food is terrible and expensive. If you are going there for drinks, don't. I was sitting at the main bar and actually watched the bartender top off half full Margaritas with water and more ice to fill the glasses. Imagine paying $10 or more for half water?? What a scam!! But... More

Expecting a small cafe, we were led into a beautiful, elegant dining room. We ordered an entree, and an appetizer. We had such large portions, we could not even finish them. The chef was pleased to substitute the vegetables that we preferred. The service, freshness of the food and quality were outstanding.

Fresh salsa and guacamole, a bowl of chili plus the best house margarita ever equal a good meal. Also tasted the nachos: good but cheese very salty. Chicken tingla was disappointing. Service was excellent. MOST tables are on the second floor and the steps might be a problem for anyone whose mobility is impaired.

Yes, Agave is tasty indeed- just as long as youre not expecting real deal, down 'n dirty Mexican food. This is far more Newburyport than Mexico, but it's still very very good! My wife and I are semi-regulars and we much prefer the 1st floor bar scene than the more sedate upper floors- but hey, to each their own. Drinks... More

Used to go here all the time but the food quality has gone way down and the price has done nothing but rise. Drinks are still spot on. And the chips... Well they are super addicting. Drinks and apps are worth it. Entrees are not.

Went to Agave in Newburyport for first time. Very warm welcome, restaurant was well appointed and inviting. Staff ( bartender, host and our waiter ) were all very friendly and helpful. They seemed very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy their work. Drinks were very good. Now the downside : the food. It was good but not as good as I... More

Guacamole prepared at tableside was very good but could have used more onion and a bit more spice.. Black bean soup was the best we ever had with excellent flavors. Shrimp and avocado salad was incredible with fabulous lime dressing.. Enchiladas were extremely dried out - would not order again. Waiter was very knowledgeable, polite and accommodating which made our... More
