Good food, interesting place

Nice to be in a traditional restaurant in Newburyport. We had dinner there on a Wednesday evening, and it was pleasantly peaceful. Service was attentive (in a good way), and the food was fresh and good. The place has clearly been there a while, and the interior is pub-like,with booths. The menu... read more

Want great food and a zillion beers to choose from? Live music? Then you must try the Grog. I always stop here when I'm in town. Lunch, dinner, or just go for the night's entertainment. The Grog will show you what Newburyport is all about; its where the locals go to meet. You'll make new friends and go home happy.

After a very disappointing experience here, last summer I decided to try it again last Saturday. I should have left well enough alone...Having just returned from London, I was actually excited to see a Ploughman's Platter on the menu and ordered that with a Newburyport Pale Ale. First I got the wrong beer...no worry, it was cold and wet so... More

My first visit to the Grog was nearly 20 years ago when I first moved to NBPT. At that time I was served an enjoyable meal, but everyone else at the table was disappointed. So, I avoided it til about 4 years ago, thought I'd give it another try. I think it's really bounced back. One of my friends who's... More

People come to the Grog because its tradition and its been a popular mainstay of the Port. Food is ok, bar seating is great.

Grog is a fun happening place. Three floors of eating and drinking. Small bars, nooks and crannies to occupy. We were on the 2nd floor with a large amount of friends. We just hung around and found whatever empty seat we could find. Took awhile to be served our drinks but that was expected with the amount of activity that... More

We stopped by for lunch. I was happy because last time I had visited was 35 years ago when husband and I were dating. The ambiance is nice. There were several (obviously) locals at the bar. It just has a feel-good thing going on. Husband and I each ordered the $8.95 luncheon fried haddock - one last hurrah until we... More

Good food and drink at a fair price....all that needs to be said. Does get busy on the weekends and parking in town can be a problem

Might've been good 20 years ago. Atmosphere is old bar style but not in a clean way. Bathrooms to match the bar-type scene...dirty. Server was nice but not competent. Blue cheese on sandwich instead of cheddar. Watery Old Fashioned. Fries obviously out of a bag. Menu is 6 pages long so everything probably out of a package and not fresh.... More

I've been here a few times. The best thing going for this place is the extensive beer list. Food is bland, service is slow, and any drink other than beer is a mistake.
