I had a very good half portion of chicken piccata and penne. The onion rings were good, but arrived cold. (I was too hungry to return them). Dinner all around was good, but not spectacular. The service was excellent! My daughter loved the Key Lime pie for dessert.

Friendly bar atmosphere with great clam chowder. Drank a few brews and shared some dishes with friends. A reasonably priced local restaurant with late night service. Would go back.

My family went to The Grog after being unable to get into another restaraunt in Newburyport. The restaraunt seemed dirty and my hair actually stuck to something on the back of the booth. My brother and mother split two sandwiches so they could both try the two. They both said one of the sandwhiches(the mahi mahi) tasted like charcoal and... More

I guess if you are going out with friends to have a few drinks it would be ok. My wife and I decided to try it again. After our last experience I said I wouldn't go back. Ladt time we took our kids and they sat us next to the bar and we couldn't hear each other talk. That was... More

Stopped by late one afternoon recently for a pint or two. Found the bar staff and the patroons very friendly. We spent several hours just conversing, relaxing, and imbibing a few. Sort of reminded me of the pubs in Ireland and England without their ambiance. Of course, most of the crowd were baby boomers who know when to put their... More

The worst food ...ever. Ordered crab cakes that were clearly left over from the night before, a nice fishy whiff upon arrival. Two tiny dried out cakes on some very tired greens, for $14.95?? I really don't think so...they were returned. My hostess ordered the mussels, OK but in a dijon mustard sauce??? A very bad experience, yes it is... More

The reviews for this place were dead on. It is a hidden gem in Newburyport. Great food and fantastic service, Kelley the bartender is the BEST!! The food is really good. In fact, it is one of the few times the burger was so tasty that you didn't need to load it with condiments.

The place has great potential but the people can't get out of their own way. We went out, sat at the bar and ordered drinks. We thought we would try the "famous" sangria; no one told us it was famous for tasting horrible! The bartender looked as if we were wasting her time. She did offer us a different drink... More

Tuesday night we went to the grog.. Only four of us.. In the upstairs I receive terrible service. I waited over a half hour to just order a drink (the bartender saw us she told us wear to sit) and after that it took another 10 to 15 minutes to get the drinks. It was not a busy, only one... More

We lived in Newburyport for many years and frequently dined here. It has been here for at least several decades and is a sort of mainstay of this beautiful community. On a recent visit to Newburyport, we stopped in for lunch. A World Cup match was on TV and the place was rather crowded. The Grog has a very good... More
