Lets see where do we began. Front of house service weak. Didn't check back with us along asking if we would like more drinks. Server didn't really want to wait on us maybe because she was really busy with other tables in bar. Kitchen food was okay order shrimp salad, I can have gone to store and bought my own... More

The Grog is a very cozy, warm pub style eatery with many faces. First there is the nice and quiet off hours dinning that is an absolute joy with a menu that covers everything from stakes and seafood to Mexican and they do it all well. The upstairs is always the place to head for a quieter evening and is... More

The service was professional and the food hot, tastefully served and very good. I had the bacon wrapped scallops...yummy.

The Grog in Newburyport, MA is an institution. It's been around (it seems) forever. My wife and I went last night, October 11. Despite being a holiday weekend, we were seated promptly, had a busy, but good waitress. The food was good. So, why the "poor" rating? I'm not sure how they describe themselves but The Grog is essentially a... More

This is my first restaurant memory of Newburyport. When we are in town, there are so many great restaurants to try. We went back today for lunch. I am not used to slow service, even harder when you have a toddler with you. Yet the server was so friendly. I had the fish and chips. Today I should have tried... More

We love fish and chips and Grog's was the best we've had all year. The fish was moist and flaky, the batter was light and golden, the chips, french fries, were cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Terry was very accommodating, the diverse menu was overwhelming and she guided us through the various choices from seafood to Mexican making suggestions along... More

After walking around this beautiful town, we were tired of hearing “you may sit outside, as long as you don’t just have appetizers.” Or, “you can only sit over here if…..We were welcomed in the Grog and the service was attentive, the calamari appetizer was outstanding, the mussels were fantastic and the oysters were only a dollar! The atmosphere is... More

While visiting friends in Plum Island, MA we had a most delicious meal at the Grog in the waterfront town of Newburyport, MA. The building is in a pre-revolutionary building. There is a very large bar area if you just want to stop in for a drink. Plenty of luncheon items at reasonable prices on the back of the menu... More

My husband and I went here for dinner. The place that they seated us near the fireplace was cozy but the seat was ripped and looked like it had not been repaired ever. Not too enticing. Our server was good. Nice young man. The food I think was a bit overpriced. I ordered the haddock and although it it was... More

Great atmosphere, great service and exceptional chowder. A very comfortable place - a welcome in feel. The chowder is different from what you'd expect in NE - not the thick, bold style - this is more like Oyster stew style and it's FANTASTIC... Just a great relaxing place with lots of personality.
