Sitting in the Grog you get a nice warm feeling and you know you will have a good time. Staff have smiles and seat you quite rapidly, even when busy. The waitress was busy, and apologized for taking awhile to get to us. We had clam chowder, not the thick kind but still good. The cheddar beer soup was smooth,... More

We heard this restaurant was a local landmark so we headed over. But the restaurant was packed. The food was pedestrian and nothing special. The clam chowder was watery and when I asked if the clams were local, the server couldn't answer. The overall service was sullen. And slow. I don't know that we'll ever be back.

We ate here several times during the day and had great meals with a great staff. Also went in a few nights and enjoyed the people (dancing Andy!) and the music downstairs.

The Grog is 4 floors of Fun! The basement has its own Bar & entertainment of many local bands on Friday & Saturday Nights. When you first walk into this Historical building you are one the 1st floor where dinning is in a casual & fun setting for all ages! The wrap- around- Bar & Pub setting is smack I'm... More

I hadn't been to the Grog in years but recently went and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is huge and varied and most of it is very good. Try the lobster roll. seafood chowder, or a big salad. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu items because they all looked good, judging from the tables... More

You have to come here because it is so old and well known. If it weren't such an old time place, it wouldn't be worth coming here. The food isn't bad, but not good. Chowder had floating butter on it, crab cakes tiny for the price. Come here for an app, not for dinner. I hear that the daughter of... More

Went with family who grew up in Newburyport. It is a popular local place and a lot of locals and those who have spent time in town especially in the pre-gentrified past have good memories of The Grog. Service and drinks were good. They have a good draft beer menu. The food however, was below average. I had steak tips.... More

Lets see where do we began. Front of house service weak. Didn't check back with us along asking if we would like more drinks. Server didn't really want to wait on us maybe because she was really busy with other tables in bar. Kitchen food was okay order shrimp salad, I can have gone to store and bought my own... More

The Grog is a very cozy, warm pub style eatery with many faces. First there is the nice and quiet off hours dinning that is an absolute joy with a menu that covers everything from stakes and seafood to Mexican and they do it all well. The upstairs is always the place to head for a quieter evening and is... More

The service was professional and the food hot, tastefully served and very good. I had the bacon wrapped scallops...yummy.
