After walking around this beautiful town, we were tired of hearing “you may sit outside, as long as you don’t just have appetizers.” Or, “you can only sit over here if…..We were welcomed in the Grog and the service was attentive, the calamari appetizer was outstanding, the mussels were fantastic and the oysters were only a dollar! The atmosphere is... More

While visiting friends in Plum Island, MA we had a most delicious meal at the Grog in the waterfront town of Newburyport, MA. The building is in a pre-revolutionary building. There is a very large bar area if you just want to stop in for a drink. Plenty of luncheon items at reasonable prices on the back of the menu... More

My husband and I went here for dinner. The place that they seated us near the fireplace was cozy but the seat was ripped and looked like it had not been repaired ever. Not too enticing. Our server was good. Nice young man. The food I think was a bit overpriced. I ordered the haddock and although it it was... More

Great atmosphere, great service and exceptional chowder. A very comfortable place - a welcome in feel. The chowder is different from what you'd expect in NE - not the thick, bold style - this is more like Oyster stew style and it's FANTASTIC... Just a great relaxing place with lots of personality.

I had a very good half portion of chicken piccata and penne. The onion rings were good, but arrived cold. (I was too hungry to return them). Dinner all around was good, but not spectacular. The service was excellent! My daughter loved the Key Lime pie for dessert.

Friendly bar atmosphere with great clam chowder. Drank a few brews and shared some dishes with friends. A reasonably priced local restaurant with late night service. Would go back.

My family went to The Grog after being unable to get into another restaraunt in Newburyport. The restaraunt seemed dirty and my hair actually stuck to something on the back of the booth. My brother and mother split two sandwiches so they could both try the two. They both said one of the sandwhiches(the mahi mahi) tasted like charcoal and... More

I guess if you are going out with friends to have a few drinks it would be ok. My wife and I decided to try it again. After our last experience I said I wouldn't go back. Ladt time we took our kids and they sat us next to the bar and we couldn't hear each other talk. That was... More

Stopped by late one afternoon recently for a pint or two. Found the bar staff and the patroons very friendly. We spent several hours just conversing, relaxing, and imbibing a few. Sort of reminded me of the pubs in Ireland and England without their ambiance. Of course, most of the crowd were baby boomers who know when to put their... More

The worst food ...ever. Ordered crab cakes that were clearly left over from the night before, a nice fishy whiff upon arrival. Two tiny dried out cakes on some very tired greens, for $14.95?? I really don't think so...they were returned. My hostess ordered the mussels, OK but in a dijon mustard sauce??? A very bad experience, yes it is... More
