Relaxed and enjoyable

Layed back and local. Good place to hang and relax especially on a rainy day. The food was all excellent and the waitress (in the bar) was very attentive to keep our drinks full.

I've been here a few times. The best thing going for this place is the extensive beer list. Food is bland, service is slow, and any drink other than beer is a mistake.

Recommended by a local in nearby town- we were very pleased. Nice setting with a fireplace on a very cold day. Good service, helpful waiter. You can order very small glasses of beer to sample their VERY extensive list. Food was good, especially the chowder. And where can you go wrong with $1 oysters (selling for $2.90 in Boston that... My family and I visited the Grog twice in the last few weeks for lunch. We have been pleased overall with the quality of the food, the service, and their beer offerings. The menu offers a good selection and also caters to kids with a meal that includes dessert and a decent portion; my son can be picky but had... More

I was here for lunch with a friend. It's very cozy, especially if you get a seat by the fire, like we did. They have a really good beer selection, which my friend was excited about. Lots of cozy pub food and friendly waitstaff made for a very enjoyable afternoon.

The Grog is one of the few places that you can count on to be open during a storm. The staff move in with the other staffers that live nearby and they get in and open. Being there, having a hot buttered rum and a burger during the time that everyone else in the world seems to be hibernating is... More

I love it here- nothing fancy but the food is always consistently good (my favorites are the French Onion Soup and Fish and Chips) and I like the atmosphere. Very classic Newburyport- nothing fancy but you feel comfortable and and can see why the locals come here as much as the tourists.

You cannot go wrong with your order from their Menu. My favorite has always been their Burgers. Every Sunday is "The Blues" downstairs for a very reasonable entrance fee. You will not be disappointed. A bit crowded but it soon looses its "close quarters" feeling when the band begins to play and people take over the dance floor. see you... More

One of the only places in town to see full bands play live. Most places in town have sol or duets. The food is always good, especially the Grog Burger on an English Muffin. The Fish Taco's are also very good.

Such a cozy spot with classic pub food. Their craft beer list is HUGE and always changing-- like even nightly. With upward of 20 taps..for any beer geek- this is beer paradise. Definitely the best beer list on the North Shore! Plus- fireplaces, live music and yummy food. Can't go wrong. Try the clam chowder!
