Good Food

Good food. Squashed-in seating (sitting on top of the next table). Often out of the specials. Temperature can be cold. Bar is always full of regulars. Appetizers are great.

We had made an advance reservation for a family gathering here and everything was ready for us upon arrival. The host was extremely welcoming and our server gave us ample time to look over the menu since the majority of us had not been here before. At first glance, I found the menu pricey until I saw the huge portion... More

Basil is good and reliable. its a reasonably priced traditional Italian family restaurant. it is popular and can be loud on weekends. wine list is ho hum. good attentive service . good and varied menu. Not as good as Carlos la cucina in Brighton but easy to get to and easy to get reservations.

Dining at Basil is an interesting experience. The restaurant sits squarely in the middle of a residential area, squeezed between houses in a neighborhood. It has a convenient across-the-street parking lot, but you'll have to negotiate a steep curb and a flight of outdoor stairs to get to the door. A man with a cane proceeded me and he struggled... Four couples enter a restaurant to catch up over dinner. The waiter did not wait for us to acknowledge that the wine we had order was acceptable and he started pouring away from the table and brought our glasses to us as you would a bunch of soft drinks. This was just one example of his inexperience. He was slow,... More

Food is always great, as is the service. The only downfall is that the mixed cocktails seem to be inconsistent in quality depending on the bartender on duty.

Basil's is a small restaurant that specializes but not limited to Italian food. Expect to be treated very personally by the attendant staff. Customizing your order to meet your individual dietary needs is never a problem. Lactose intolerant.. they will advise you on what does not have milk products in it or offer to modify your favorite dish to avoid... More

If you want a free dessert at Basil's, just order the chicken and spicy sausage. No sausage! So the compensation for a totally messed up entree....free dessert, right? Otherwise, if you like gemelli pasta in a blah cream sauce with some chicken chunks thrown in, go for this dish. You won't be disappointed. Also, order your wine yourself at the... More

This is a great "hometown" restaurant, but certainly worth the effort for out-of-towners to travel. Our friends joined us coming from Newton, maybe 45 mins. for them, and they really enjoyed their meals, including the duck which turned out crispy and nice. My wife and I mostly stay with the specials, usually Italian, and have never been disappointed. Good-sized servings... More

Had the pleasure of dining here last Saturday night. We went in about 630pm and was seated right away in one of their front tables by a window. They brought over 3 different types of warm delicious breads. I enjoyed a white sangria and my husband had a glass of chianti. We got an clam appetizer with garlic toast points... More
