The food is great but the prices seem very high. You sometimes have to wait outside to be seated. The atmosphere is rushed and waitresses look harried. It is a landmark in the area. I guess seafood is expensive, but they seem extreme.

This place is iconic for reasons that are beyond me. I've eaten here more than a handful of times and only bc the ppl I was with insisted we go there. The main reason there's a visible line of ppl spilling into the parking lot is because the service moves at a glacial speed. It's cramped, terribly dated and lacks... More

Get there early as the lines can be long (but them move pretty quickly). This is a perfect place for a first time visit to new England. You order at the window inside the "box" and then head to the dining room to wait for your number to be called. The dining room is all vintage captains chairs, booths and... More

The lines are long but don't let them deter you as the lines move along quickly and the food is worth it. The batter for the fried seafood is light and not "greasy". There is not a lot of seating inside but there are picnic tables under trees during the summer and warmer months.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and it never fails! Best seafood ever, lightly fried and fresh. Most items are fried, but you can get hot dogs and cole slaw for the younger ones, but the quality and taste is amazing. Simple seating inside and picnic tables outside. They do change the oil every day... More

Seriously. No frills. No fanciness. Just wicked good seafood. Worth the price. Line moves fast. You think you can't eat it all but you can, and no heavy feeling after. Very clean.

My wife and I traveling thru the area last week. I checked trip advisor and this place popped up. We went and the food was really good. I thought the price was high till I seen the portions. The amount of food they piled on was well worth what they were charging. We had the fried whole belly clams and... More

We have made the hour long drive to The Clam Box in September for the past couple of years. It is becoming our end of the summer tradition. We have also dined at nearby Woodman's. It is hard to get bad fried seafood in the Ipswich/Essex area. Like most of the rest of the Boomers, we watch our cholesterol, so... More
