For over 30 years, every time I'm even remotely close to Ipswich, I go out of my way to grab a meal of fried clams at the Clam Box. This local legend cooks locally harvested Ipswich clams by lightly frying them with a consistency and quality that hasn't once wavered. I've had belly clams elsewhere, but they just don't compare.... I do not like seafood, but my husband and two kids do. My favorite fried seafood place is Ronnie's in Auburn, MA. I don't go to many of this type of restaurant, so I only have Ronnie's to compare to. When we got there the line stretched well into the parking lot, so it took us over an hour to... More

Stopped at clam box on the way to Maine. I had not been there in a few years but was happy to find the same quality food and good prices. The line is usually long but the food is worth it.

We have been eating here off and on for years. Generally don't stop if the line is long, we tend to go mid week or off season. Tonight there was no line to speak of so we stopped for dinner. It can get pricey but we feel it is worth it. The clams were good tonight, maybe not as large... More

I attended college in Beverly and found the Clam Box while I was going to school. We visited several times, family coming down from NH and meeting me there. We recently went back to the Clam Box for a once-a-year treat. Unfortunately, we found the lines longer than they used to be and service extraordinarily slow. One girl taking orders.... More

I grew up on the Cape, so I know seafood AND am a foodie in general. That said, this is a must do for fried seafood lovers. The lines are long (with good reason) and the service a bit slow, but if you are looking for unbelievably good fried seafood and have the time to wait, this place will knock... More

I just got back from a short get-a-way in the Newburyport-Ipswich area. My son in law(who was raised in this area) recommended Clam Box and we ate lunch there 2 out of 4 days we were there and wasted the other 2.. We had eaten at one of our past favorite places in Essex, and there was no contest. The... More

Been coming here for 16 years and never disappointed. In 1998 when I was pregnant, I had the biggest craving for fried clams! Had my husband driving me to Essex, Gloucester, and all over Massachusetts seeking fried clams during that year. The Clam Box was the best! To this day, I will drive to Ipswich which takes me 40 minutes... More

We stopped here for a late lunch last weekend and we're not disappointed! Funky little clam hut from 1935 with delicious food. I love fried whole belly clams and these did not disappoint. I also had scallops and Maine shrimp; the portions were huge and justified the cost. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area!

HUGEST big bellies I have ever had! Fried RIGHT. And so were the scallops, and the onion rings. The lines are LOOOONNNGGG... For a reason, so stick it out and be rewarded with true New England fried fare.
