Wonderful local longtime restaurant--best lobster I have had in years. Double lobster night is a supreme and wonderful overindulgence.
However the actual appearance, cleanliness, are quite different. This place seriously needs an update. The grilled salmon was actually pan fried. We will not go back.
My husband and I met my brother here for supper. My husband found it on line. It doesn't look like much from the outside and even when when we went in I wasn't convinced. But the food was delicious. The prices reasonable. Definitely on our list when we travel from our upstate NY home to Maine this summer.
I'm from Holyoke and have been coming here for a long time, every time I return "home" we stop in. Today I got a bucket of steamers / boiled lobster (lobstah) with garlic mashed potatoes and a bowl of clam chowder. Wife got the package down eastern something with lobster / steamers and chowder. We both agreed we have had... More
This is the place to be. Small intimate setting and beside having to grab your own beverage, the food is great. And they don't serve you plastic utensils or plates. Shrimp and corn chowder out of this world. I encourage all of you to stop by at least once.
I was back in New England for a visit with family and wanted lobster. Shermerhorn's has a Sunday special of 3 Maine lobsters for 19.95. They are only a pound to a pound and a half, but in chain restaurants, the same one lobster is $30. The friends and family said over the years the food has been inconsistent, but... More
I did not go to the restaurant, but to the attached seafood market. I went specifically to compare their seafood to the seafood we have been getting from the Cape Cod Seafood Share over the summer. The latter is pricey, and difficult to pick up sometimes as they are often late getting into town, but oh so fresh and delicious.... More
We ate at Schermerhorn's while visiting friends in Holyoke. One of our party had been living in Montana and wanted lobster, so we went here to find three 1.25 pound lobsters for $19.95 -- but no potato, salad, etc., just the lobster. Others in our party had whole belly clams and lobster casserole, all nicely done with side dishes included.... More
Some of the food is better than others my husband enjoys the fish and chip and their soups Their grinders are terrible three different times the meat tasted spoiled and the third time when I mentioned it to the restaurant they didn't believe me. The restaurant needs some work and you eat with plastic forks and spoons and use paper... More
Beware of the bad food all of it. The smell should be the first hint. Most of the food is rotten. Food defrosted then refrozen nasty. If you want to end up in the hospital this is the place for you. I seen them take seafood from the fish case that was no good and wash it off and cook... More
