Kind of Bishop's but different

I've seen a number of people refer to this as the next coming of Bishop's, and that's really not fair to this family run restaurant. Bishop's will have a soft place in my heart, and I wouldn't say the food here is a direct carry-over, if you will. But it's pretty darned good in its own right. I... read more

We had made reservations for seven people for 5:30pm on Father's Day and was told that this would be fine. We arrived at 5:15pm and waited one half hour to be seated. The waitress was quick to order our drinks but after that things went downhill. After quite a few minutes the server came back and took our food orders.... More

Situated in a function hall, the quality of food reflected the standards of the huge, aged dining room. I guess my expectations were too high....

if you are longing for the 'old Bishop's' of Lawrence, look no further. Food was great. Hummus was a perfect start. Salad with the house dressing was fresh and the grilled lamb chops were cooked to perfection. Of course the french fries are the best. Worth the visit.

This place has been a favorite of ours for years although it's a 40 minute drive. On my last visit I ordered "tenderloin on the stick" my favorite dish for a long time, it was dry & chewy, almost didn't taste like tenderloin but I thought it was just me. Yesterday we went back ordered the same thing, definitely not... More

I met 5 friends here for dinner, upon one of them recommending it. We had made a reservation, and when we arrived we were seated right away at a large, round table in the center of the expansive, bustling dining room. There's was a nice fire burning in the fire place at the far end of the room. The lighting... More

We were saddened when Bishop's in Lawrence, Ma. closed. Imagine our surprise when we heard that the chefs that had worked for bishop's had opened their own place in Haverhill, Ma. We visiter The Phoenician this past weekend and what memorable memories it brought back. The middle eastern food was wonderful. I love haddock and the piece I had was... More

This middle eastern restaurant does big lamb chops and stuffed cabbage rolls really well. Some people on the web recommended it after I had searched for the infamous Bishops of Lawrence, a standout in the 70's and 80's. The Phoenician did the chops in the broiler just as well, fantastic. Decor is comfortable, but a bit old and anonymous. Don't... More

When visiting this area the Phoenician was the restaurant at the top of the list. The baked stuffed shrimp was my go to dinner. This time that previously delicious stuffing was like eating a mouthful of paste with no flavor. The usuallty coarse delicacy was gone, there were no bits of walnuts, no flavor of garlic and lemon. I couldn't... More

My wife and I got together with another couple for dinner on a Saturday. I've never been here before but the other couple loved it so we decided to meet here. The ambiance is definitely family dining but the food is fantastic! We ordered the hoummos appetizer which paired very well with the yummy pita bread they give to each... More
