I had many ways I was going to write this review in my head but it just turned out this way for that I am sorry. I’m not usually this harsh because when you read reviews like this I sometimes just brush them off. But, this was not a good experience the food was tasteless, the service bad and it... more

Bizen was recommended to up by the manager at our hotel. The appetizers and the sushi were premium. The atmosphere was great. The only downsides were that it was incredibly hot inside the restaurant (by the bar) and our server was far too attentive to a table of her friends to pay much attention to us. I thought the prices... more

The fish quality was definitely good. However, the service was so poor that I honestly can't even remember the food. Our server was down right rude. She actually made fun of the drink I ordered (I ordered was cherries for my apple martini - okay total fru fru drink, but seriously?!) I don't care how crazy the request is from... more

Nice atmosphere but slow service. Ideally simple food can still be quite flavorfull but the Vegetarian Special and Udon soup was very bland. Avocado maki was disapointing. Overall, we found Bizen to be overpriced and over-hyped. more

We eat here more than any other restaurant in the Berkshires and Litchfield Hills. The food, especially the seafood, is consistently excellent and fresh. Service is good but not great. The biggest problem is its popularity. Make a reservation several days ahead and request a tatami, because the tables are tiny and packed too tight. The menu is bewildering for... more

My husband and I love to go here when we are in the mood for Japanese. He loves the Sushi. The service isn't always great, but the food makes up for it. Plus, if you like James Taylor, you can usually spot him here when he plays "every" summer in the Berkshires. more

Bizen is a treat for vegetarians and vegans looking for sushi that goes beyond the basic avocado roll. With about six vegetarian sushi specialties, with improbable but delicious combinations like tempura yam, avocado, and cranberry, you will be spoiled forever. No simple cucumber roll will ever satisfy you again. Beyond sushi, the menu also offers vegetarian shu mai, seitan kushi... more

I am baffled by one of the previous posts complaining that the fish at Bizen was not good. I have been eating there regularly for years, and if there is any place that serves finer fish on a consistent basis, I want to know about it. An owner-prepared platter of sashimi I had recently contained no fewer than 14 varieties... more

The service here is just plain horrible, but I could deal with that is the fish was good, but it wasn't. The sushi was lack luster at best. On top of that it took a solid hour before any food arrived. It was nice to be in a tatatmi room, b/c I was able to get in a little nap... more

Bizen Sushi Bar & Restaurant was a treat for the eyes as well as for the palate. The restaurant is run by Michael Marcus, who is not only one of the sushi chefs but is also one of only a half-dozen potters in the US using the ancient Japanese technique to produce bizen-ware with its subtle brown and black patterns.... more
