Top quality sushi

I went here with some friends and had a nice evening. We had fatty tuna that was amazing. The Sea Bass rolls were good, the Udon noodles with tofu and watercress was ok, but not authentic. A few other dishes were ok, but the high end sashimi is the best and very expensive. Bring your wallet and be... read more

I only occasionally eat fish but, I eat it at Bizen and nosh on lots of other vegan fair they have including fabulous desserts. I even got to meet Chef Sato who makes the desserts and is an Akido instructor.

Dear davsprt714 Thank you for your kind words about the quality of Bizen's sushi/sashimi grade fish especially your experience with our sashimi. We purchase our product from the same supplier that uses Nobu, Hatsuhana, Sushi of Gari and other fine Japanese restaurants in New York City without charging our patrons the astronomical prices that one sees in New York. You... More

Because of it's convenient location in the center of Great Barrington, because I often get a hankering for sushi, and because the staff was welcoming and they draw a nice crowd. BUT... food just wasn't that good. We tried a couple of the special sushi rolls and they were both sort of bland and dry. Sushi rice was not very... More

We travel from Albany to Great Barrington to enjoy all that it has to offer; however, the main attraction is Bizen. Since discovering this gem shortly after since its opening, we dine there regularly and have never been disappointed! It is our favorite restaurant and we have had the opportunity to taste much of what is on the menu and... More

Nothing special about Bizen. Food is OK, but uninspired. Sushi maybe slightly above average. Service could be better. Unless you're dying for Japanese food, you won't miss much by skipping this one.

Dear esmith 2112 I'm sorry to read the two lines of your profound critique where you so cavalierly dismissed 20 years of a restaurant's existence. What goes into a restaurant to make it great? What is omitted to render it'nothing special'? Do you even understand what it takes to be a restaurant much less one that has consistently led Great... More

I've been going to Bizen for over 15 years. There was a time where I was concerned with the quality and direction of restaurant but it's like a rebirth, this place has never been better. The owner is great and socialized with his guests.

Very crowded on a Sat evening. Family of 4 thin people - we were squished between 2 tables, and the waitress had to keep moving my husband to serve another table. The service was slow. Clearly they did not have enough wait staff to cover a typical Sat evening. The food was meh and overpriced for the quality. We had... More

I valued very much your critique of Bizen and want to acknowledge your disappointment for the experience you had. Since you referenced every failure and weakness from service to seating to quality I can only share this review with my staff in hope of improving these aspects of the restaurant and doing so in such a discernible fashion as to... A lovely place with a wide variety of Japanese foods including sushi and sashimi, but tons of other offerings too.

My job consistently takes new job candidates to Bizen. The atmosphere is great, the food is great, and the service is great. I wish my husband liked sushi enough to go more often!
