My staff of life

Bread is a central part of my diet. There are a number of good bread sources in town but this may be the best bread in Gloucester.

Alexandra's Bread is a wonderful local treasure. Not only are the breads and baked goods delicious and fresh they carry lots of cool gifts, both savory and not. Well worth a visit! Whenever at gathering and anything from Alexandra's shows up on the table it is gone within minutes!!!

A very unassuming store front is left behind as soon as you walk in the door and smell the fresh baked goods! Not only is the aroma mouth watering, the freshness of their product is even better. We frequently buy cobbles for a dinner party and invariably get comments about how good they are. Well worth the trip, but I... More

Best breads on Cape Ann and beyond. The olive twig bread and baguettes are exceptional. The rye bread (Fridays only) is just amazing. The scones and cookies are a wonderful treat. The owners are warm and friendly, the service is great! Can't say enough.

Most excellent quality ... but the quantity is VERY limited. You can show up some mornings and there's nothing for sale. So, it's best to order a day in advance for pickup at your designated time. This is a small bakery operated by a husband and wife team that is an artisan lifestyle choice ... so, there are shutdown periods... More

Delicious bread, scones, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies. Alexandra's doesn't have a huge selection but what they offer is made fresh, and when they are sold out, they close. In addition to the lovely food offerings they have they also have a unique shop of wonderful and unique gift items- some preserves, tea towels, and other fun and charming things... More

A very small bakery run by two people who are always busy getting their products out for sale. I was there about 8:30am and the baking was still underway. Spicy olive loaves were just going into the oven and cobble bread was just coming out. There were some breads. cookies and scones already for sale. I bought an olive stick... More

Make sure you get there early. I got there about one o'clock and was SOL. Bought some homemade biscotti. Owner was very nice. Will try again. The biscotti was excellent.

They have excellent breads, rolls but their chocolate chip cookie that I call 'Million Dollar Cookie' is the best ~ has nuts, coconut, chocolate bits and is out of this world delicious! I have to discipline myself to not go there as I could eat these cookies like you would eat peanuts ~ one after the other ~ Plus they... More
