We were expecting a pleasant experience with excellent food when we went out for dinner at the reopened Alchemy on Friday night. The backstory: the old Alchemy Tapas & Bistro closed last spring and after renovations, reopened as Pinoli a few months ago. After being open only a few weeks the chef took a position in California because Gloucester wasn't... More

Alchemy is part of the Serenity Group, a well run restaurant chain North of Boston. Our first trip there for a celebratory dinner with friends. Great decor, brick and casual with comfortable chairs, ours was a table for six in the back, private with a nice padded bench for the ladies. Good selection of beer and wine got everyone in... More

Last night four of us, from Gloucester and Rockport, dined at Alchemy in Gloucester. We've eaten there many times during its various reincarnations. For those who don't know, it had been Alchemy for years, then latest and most short lived it became Pinoli, but they immediately closed and Alchemy returned. Our last meal at Alchemy in its past version (before Pinoli)... More

If you want "sophisticated", go to Alchemy. Price point, upper moderate, good food and service. Gloucester has so many good food choices that range from "dives" with character to pretentious restaurants. We like to "play it by ear" depending on mood, energy and plans for next day.

We visited Alchemy on a little family get away to Rockport. We were originally supposed to eat at Latitude 49, their sister restaurant but it was still under going renovations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very warm but trendy. The menu had many delicious sounding options. There were several nice craft beers on tap and they had a nice... More

PINOLI IS CLOSED. Alchemy has once more assumed its place in the building that was, briefly, something else. Let me disclose up front: After our meal, with drinks and dessert, we were comp'd. Our wait person said that mgmt knew somehow that our last experience there (when it was Pinoli) was not optimal. That is certainly true, but we aren't... More

We were very sad when Alchemy closed its doors last Spring. We had some great meals there and some great cocktails including the infamous "Piso Sour." The good news is that the Serenitee group is opening a Northern Italian restaurant on the site and the interior will remain very much the same. We hear that the Mafia table will remain... More

I really enjoyed eating at Alchemy, but it has now be closed for many months. There is a sign saying it will reopen, but it looks like it is closed for good.

They have excellent food and on certain nights they have musical performers. Wednesdays is "women's" night with very reasonable food choices which are superb!
