The Franklin Cafe experience is best known for its consistency, class and incomparable cuisine. The inviting ambiance of this restaurant allows the patron to enter a thoughtfully designed space and enjoy welcoming staff that can accommodate small or large parties or the comfort of two well-stocked bar areas. The menu connects the patron with the impeccable taste and careful planning... More

The BEST. As an experienced traveller and a resident of New York who frequents many NY venues, this restaurant was an extraordinary treasure in Gloucester!! Though no one recommended to us, fortunately I set forth after disappointing visits to The Rudder and Latitude 43 (why go to either in the evening?) to find a superior dining experience. Happening upon this... More

In Gloucester, you want to be able to dine out on fresh fish but you may not want it deep fried. The Franklin Cafe serves the best chowder on Cape Ann-- not that squishy, styrofoam stuff with square potatoes, but plump clams in a light savory cream broth with generous hunks of bacon, and a dash of fresh olive oil... We have been eating at the Franklin Cafe for over seven years because the food is consistently fresh, excellent and impeccably plated and served. It is our go to place for birthdays and anniversaries--it's swanky decor makes going out to dinner an special event. When we need a lift from our work week, we love to sit at the gorgeous... More

We needed a place for dinner in Gloucester for the first night (a Monday) of a quick beach breather. We decided to try The Franklin. For some reason we expected more of a pub like atmosphere and a larger place...nevertheless we were able to get a comfortable booth without a reservation. (Which we quickly learned was almost mandatory to get... More

Glad I made reservations, because the restaurant was busy even on the Sunday of a holiday weekend. Brought my partner for his birthday dinner, and we both loved it. Great atmosphere and nice mix of music, but quiet enough for conversation. Service was excellent. Nice drink selection, and well-made cocktails. The clam chowder was outstanding, and the arugula salad crunchy... More

We went for dinner on Friday night, without a reservation, and were promptly seated in their upstairs dining room. I ordered the baked haddock special and my companion had the chicken with apple cider reduction and butternut squash risotto. This was by far the best baked haddock that I have ever had - the breading was crunchy, the fish cooked... More

Six of us enjoyed dinner here on a cold evening a week ago. We all had different appetizers or salads - grilled calamari which was tender in a light lemon sauce, 4 had the Caesar salad and loved it, followed by a swordfish special w/ lobster sauce, steak w/ the best pommes frites you'll ever have, the half chicken, etc....
