Local gem for breakfast

Walking into this small, homey diner takes you back in time. It's run by a friendly Portuguese family and offers home cooked fare. We had an excellent breakfast with Portuguese sausage and home fries as well as fluffy pancakes. There's nothing fancy, just good hearty food at reasonable prices... read more

This place always serves a great breakfast with pleasant, efficient service. They also have a variety of baked goods available to go. It is small but once you get seated you will have a meal in minutes.

This is the kind of place I love. Small, home town diner-like restaurant with great food and a fun, hard-working, awesome wait staff. Our wait person, Diane, asked our names the first time we went in and never forgot them. We felt like regulars after only one breakfast. We went back every morning after that while we were in Falmouth.... More

We had breakfast here on July 22 and July 23. We rarely visit the same restaurant but Mary Ellen's was worth the stops. The food is excellent, Portuguese ethnic and the backery is delicious.

This place is a MUST!!! Staff always smiling and joking with patrons. The service is fast.. DELICIOUS and cheap for the servings. This place ONLY accepts cash.. but you will NOT be disappointed. The place is on the small side.. only 7 tables and 9 low stools at the counter...BUT sooooo worth the wait. It's off season.. so no wait... More

My Wife had eggs benedict which she loved. I had Portuguese omelet (stuffed with linguica, Portuguese cheese and parsley), toasted Portuguese bread with tasty home fries which was really good and filling but I needed something to bring back to the hotel so I could make breakfast each morning so I also got the marinated pork and more home fries.... We had breakfast at the bakery, but I probably wouldn't return. My husband loved the roll his breakfast sandwich was served on, but the rest of the meal was kind of plain tasting. It seemed like the locals enjoy eating there, and they were greeted with jokes and laughter. We felt we got the cold shoulder service as outsiders. The... More

We stumbled on Mary Ellen's and had a good breakfast. Not at all fancy but that's how we like it. We would go back if we were in the area again.

If you have to wait it's worth it. The small but adequately supplied Portuguese case is a delight. It's a nice diner with very helpful staff and modest prices. Now that it's off season you'll see us there quite often.
