Great, Historic Spot for Seafood

Excellent spot for great seafood. Excellent fish, clams, clam strips, chicken, and chowder. The atmosphere was break - an old Victorian house and we sat in front of a roaring fireplace. Definitely a great spot!

My husband and I had a nice evening here in a comfortable booth. Nice conversation and pleasant service. But it's only been 5 minutes and I can't remember the food. The chowder was good. Everything else just unexceptional.

I met a friend here for lunch this week. This is one of her favorite places. I wasn't impressed at all. The crab cakes were mediocre and the lobster bisque was just OK. We also shared scallops wrapped in bacon ... those were good. The restaurant was very cozy and quaint. Service was a bit slow. The majority of the... More

We had a wonderfully prepared meal. Our drinks and appetizers were terrific. Our Waitress was great, and most helpful with suggestions. An old New England roadside tavern "feel". Nice bar area or multiple side rooms for a little more relaxing. Do stop...the Staff will serve you well!

As 'locals', this is our 'go to' place for a relaxed lunch or dinner either as a couple, or with friends. Their menu covers the gamut from fish (haddock & sole), to shellfish(shrimp, clams and lobster), to beef (prime rib and tenderloin). They offer pasta dishes like shrimp and lobster ravioli in lobster cream sauce, and a variety of chicken... More

We recently moved to Gloucester, and have eaten at many restaurants in the area. Windwards has become our favorite, based on quality of food, price, and ambiance. We frequently eat at the bar, but whether you sit at a booth or table, the food is always excellent. Portions are large, and typically we take home leftovers sufficient for a nice... More

If you want to eat in a hurry, instead of dine, go elsewhere. This is a dining establishment where you can relax and savor the ambience and flavors of the food. My husband had the prime rib and I had the Maine lobster. It was delicious! Service was gracious and not rushed.

The website menu and the menu we were offered at the restaurant were somewhat different but no big deal. They offer fish such as haddock prepared 5 ways. That's impressive. Baked options are available. Service was fine and the amount of food served was appropriate. All 3 of us enjoyed our experience.

We looked forward to trying the Windward Grille based on Trip Advisor reviews. We arrived, well after the lunch rush, after a lovely boat ride with Essex River Cruises. We were seated right away. To our surprise, however, even with few customers we waited over 10 minutes for our waitress to take our order and then over 30 minutes later... More

The food is fantastic. The drinks are generous. The service was outstanding. At our table we tried the Steak Tips, Baked Haddock, & Tenderloin App, All were delicious, generous portions, and served hot. Four dinners with drinks was under $100. Good value. Will definitely go back.
