Nothing fancy, just great food.

Loved this place, the view from the back is a beautiful marsh. The building is nothing fancy, but the seafood is fresh and hot. I had the seafood combination which had shrimp, scallops, clams and fish. The food was piled high with the seafood, onion rings and French fries. The only drawback is... read more

When you first look at the restaurant you think it's a whole in the wall. It's situated near a beautiful body of water. We traveled from Maryland and Philadelphia primarily for their seafood. The fish is very fresh and the atmosphere is simple and friendly. The seafood soup is a meal in itself. It had large pieces of various types... More

This place never ceases to amaze---wonderful food; hasn't changed since forever; great view of the salt marsh. We always have the fried whole clams and large scallops--Mmmmmm!!!!! NO CREDIT CARDS but they do have an ATM.

Very disappointed in the quality of the food. Farnham's is considered an institution in Essex but we'd never tried it due to reported long lines. We had an early dinner -- four of us and all of us were so surprised. Two had lobster which had no taste (overcooked probably) and 1 had fried calamari (way way overcooked). All had... More

Across the street from that factory Woodman's and in a quint New England waterfront building. The hostess pleasantly greeted me and asked how she could help me. I told her that there was three in our party and would like a table with a view. She did not disappoint. Our server came over right away and was very attentive. We... More

A hold in the wall type restaurant with fine food, limited indoor seating. the line may be long to take your order but the food, especially the fried clams are worth the wait.

Such a treat to eat at Farnham's! I ordered a split plate of fried scallops and fried whole clams, and they were perfect - light batter, sweet and tender. We ate inside due to the heat, but you can also eat outside. This is the place where all the locals eat (we were sent there by a local friend), and... More

I was on the long way to Gloucester and stopped for lunch on the suggestion of a friend. I think this place has been featured on Dinners and Dives which may account on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM that there was a long line up for food. You order at the counter and then try and find space to... More

This place is an old favourite of our relatives who live here or visit often, and now we know why. I ordered the small clam box (see photo) and an Ipswich Ale. Mom had the small scallop box, and my cousin ordered some fried cod cheeks for the table, a specialty here. Everything was delicious, the restaurant was clean and... More
