Friendly place to eat

Nice friendly place. The service was great. I had baked haddock on a bed of spinach. It sounded healthy but it had a creamy buttery sauce that wasn't so healthy. It was very yummy, though! The coffee was not very good but ok. The decor was dark and on the old, tired side. We got to sit in the... read more

We drove up to Essex for lunch at the Village Restaurant and we arrived around 2 in the afternoon. It may be because of the time but we were seated and waited about 10 minutes+ for a server to stop by. A waitress came,to,the table and asked if we're helped and when we said no, she said it was not... More

On route from Rye, NH to Rocfor, MA, we stopped in Essxand stumbled on this great venue. Highly recommended are the loaded potato skins, calamari and village burger

Good food and a very comfortable place to relax. My husband and I sit in the bar area which usually has local people and everyone is very friendly. We enjoy the food and the service is very good. Have also gone with a large family group and everything was very good.

First off, a drive to Essex any time of year is the bomb! With family there, we make the trip a couple times year. The Village has been a staple there for years. The food is good - not fabulous, but for the price, you get plenty of it! Yummy clam chowder! Friendly service! Worth a trip , but beware,... More

the food is ok not very exciting or different always the same. There are some better places to go in Essex. Like the Windwood ( spelling ??) for example.

I am from the North Shore of Boston but have lived in California for the last 25 years. Whenever I return to New England, this is my first stop. It's the fried clams and onion rings I love, but don't forget the corn bread and chowder, it's great!!!

Son wanted clams so we headed to The Village. Place was packed, busiest we have seen it in awhile, maybe we have just been lucky. Was not in the mood for seafood so I went with the steak tips, they were wonderful. Service was good and friendly. Onion soup was on the special board so I gave that a try... More

When visiting the Boston area, head to the North Shore area to a little seaside town by the name of Essex. An easy 1 hour drive up Rt. 128 will bring you to a fabulous restaurant specializing in anything seafood. But they are especially known for their fried clams. We now live in North Carolina and look forward to our... More

We stumbled across this on our last night of a week's tour of New England and it was a perfect last meal. Chowders, oysters and a luscious stuffed lobster big enough to share. You could tell many locals were dining there as well. The interior dining areas could use some sprucing and lightening up but the meal was memorable.
