I am from the North Shore of Boston but have lived in California for the last 25 years. Whenever I return to New England, this is my first stop. It's the fried clams and onion rings I love, but don't forget the corn bread and chowder, it's great!!!

Son wanted clams so we headed to The Village. Place was packed, busiest we have seen it in awhile, maybe we have just been lucky. Was not in the mood for seafood so I went with the steak tips, they were wonderful. Service was good and friendly. Onion soup was on the special board so I gave that a try... More

When visiting the Boston area, head to the North Shore area to a little seaside town by the name of Essex. An easy 1 hour drive up Rt. 128 will bring you to a fabulous restaurant specializing in anything seafood. But they are especially known for their fried clams. We now live in North Carolina and look forward to our... More

We stumbled across this on our last night of a week's tour of New England and it was a perfect last meal. Chowders, oysters and a luscious stuffed lobster big enough to share. You could tell many locals were dining there as well. The interior dining areas could use some sprucing and lightening up but the meal was memorable.

I began visiting this restaurant back in the 1980's with my mom. We had many memorable meals there together. Many restaurants "peak" and then begin to go downhill, however, the Village Restaurant is just the opposite. They keep getting better and better. I love their fried lobster which is a very ample serving, their Sicilian Chowder is one of my... More

We had a great lunch in this restaurant with my brother and his family. It is a full service restaurant featuring classic New England seafood. I enjoyed the steamed lobster and clams. The fried haddock was fresh and tasty. They do have an extensive menu. The service was fast and friendly. It also has a great location in the middle... More

The is a great place to eat with friends, family or just as a couple. Everything is fresh, cooked to order with great skill. The seafood offerings range from the familiar to the tantalizing. This is an institution is Essex, but that does not mean old or tired. The food is terrific and you are guaranteed a great time here.

Hard to believe we have never tried the Village Restaurant until now, but with so many good seafood establishments in Cape Ann I hope we will be forgiven! Some of the best fried clams and haddock ever, and my husband had a delicious Delmonico steak. We will surely be back!

There are many places to get good seafood along route 133 in Essex, but the Village restaurant really stands out. They have an extensive menu of New England seafood favorites all cooked to perfection, any way you like: baked, broiled, or fried. They dig their own steamers and you haven't enjoyed good steamers until you've had a platter-full of their... More
