Good not Great

Our first time here. We did our annual trip to Crane Beach, and then went looking for our annual fried clams. We were headed for Farnham's but this place looked like it had a bar. It did, very cozy and friendly staff. We decided to try their clams. Very juicy, but I would have liked more spice... read more

Four of us went to the Village in Essex tonight! High praise for drinks, food, and service! The fish was excellent, well cooked and large portions. Three of us had the Broiled Seafood Trio. It had haddock, shrimp, and scallops. We could not have asked for a bigger, more delicious serving and at a price under $20.00. I highly recommend... More

This is a quaint place off the main road, and something different. Delicious meat and seafood entrees, but be sure to save room for desset!. A very complete selection of goodies, such as blueberry bread pudding, and, a must-have, the toll house cookie and ice cream sandwich is to die for!

Please save your money and go elsewhere! I thought we had done a good job researching our restaurant choices. Unfortunately, this one fell through the cracks! Guided by my family's hunger, I quickly read the first couple of reviews for this restaurant. My mistake! I should have dug deeper and read ALL the reviews. This place is NOT recommended. I... More

our haddock, while tasty, probably had a stick of butter left In the dish . The special drink hardly felt alcoholic.. Service was good-ambience right for parents & grandparents generations.

The Village Restaurant is an institution. They have been in the business of serving fabulous seafood for several decades. I had not visited this restaurant in many years but it was even better than I recall from my childhood. We had the good fortune of eating there the first time on our recent trip on a Tuesday, as on that... More

The Village is very consistent in providing really good food. We love the New England specialties (fried clams, calamari, onion rings...) as well as their nicely put together casseroles and combo dishes. The wait staff is always very good. Nice to sit in a real restaurant rather than picnic table-type places and the prices are comparable these days.

A good place. You know you will get a good meal. I have been there with couples as well as a group of girls. The waitstaff are very nice. Their flatbread with mushrooms excellent as is their soups. The salad is really good size. It's closed Monday's, which we have forgotten every once in awhile.

Stopped in here the other night and the place was packed. The parking situation is a little crazy behind the restaurant but we, like many others, made our own spot. Was told it was 20 minute wait so we went to the bar. One of the bartenders spotted and cleared off a table for us, so we sat at the... More

This was my first visit here . I had lobster pie and fried clam combo . It was delicious ! Even the sides were great. Baked potatoes hot and soft, broccoli and corn on cob was also very good. My waitress was great and very attentive. My daughter had lobster mac and cheese which was very good . The portions... More
