My husband and I ate at Alchemy last night. When I called for a reservation around 7:00 p.m., the very polite hostess told me the earliest open table for two would be 9:25, but we could walk in off the street and they might fit us in or we might get seats at the bar. When we arrived, despite the... More

I have been to Alchemy several times over the years and always had an outstanding experience. My visit a few nights ago was the first one during a busy evening during tourist season so I now understand how service can be compromised when the restaurant is so busy. We had made a reservation, and we were greeted promptly with a... More

First the good: we both had the burgers. They had good meat and were cooked to medium rare perfection, generous cheese, and heaps of carmelized onion. They came with a mountain of delicious fries. The bad: we arrived at 6:15, long before the rush. Two thirds of the tables were still empty but they wouldn't seat us in the dining... More

The old saying is true size is not everything .... Well at least not for a restaurant. This place is great and has good food if you find yourself in this area. The cost is reasonable an the staff is courteous. Would definitely recommend you taking the time to stop by if you have the time.

Very nice restaurant but a bit crowded. Make sure you have a reservation and do not want to cancel it. Goopd service and wait staff.

One of the worst places on the Vineyard. Food is overly rich and overly priced . The service by the waiters was fine, but the staff who make and manage reservations are a bunch of arrogant people. Try calling in to make a reservation or confirm one and you get some run around that they cannot help you--leave a message... More

Okay, so the food is not always stellar or up to its pricey stipend. That said, I still like to sit at this tony bar (solo) and have a drink before I head to the Whalers' Church next door for some pretty serious classical presentations. What I had this trip around was a "Koi Pond" cocktail, mixed and presented with... More

Fresh fish, sure, but that's easy on MVY. Convenient location and lovely balconey overlooking main street. But tries to by NYC hip instead of elegant in edgartown. With prices this high, you want an awesome swordfish steak - not scrawny overcooked fish. Not even worth it for a "special night out." Dont bother splurging here - if you want to... More

Service was great. The Maître d was very accommodating and the waiter was on point. The ambiance was wonderful. But sadly, the food was just ok. We should have checked the menu as it may have been that the menu that night just didn't have what we were expecting.

So it was good-but-not-great (that was the consensus of 4 diners who all ordered different things), and if the entrees were $27 instead of $37 we'd be raving about it. But $37 sets a different expectation, which they failed. The tables were close together and there was lots of noise, and they have nowhere near the commitment to local sourcing... More
