Great, authentic Mexican food

This was a busy restaurant on a Saturday night. The restaurant is nothing fancy, but was very comfortable. The food was excellent, as was the service. The only thing lacking was the size of the margaritas. They were probably half the size of a drink elsewhere but the price wasn't. Our server was on... read more

I've been eating here for over 20 years and have loved this place for so long. I hate to write a bad review, but they've just gotten lazy and sloppy. The food is consistently pretty good, but on our visit tonight (and several other times recently), there were too many negatives to overlook. Our waiter was truly awful, not a... More

The worst thing about this place is its location leaves it with not a lot of parking- but there is parking around back, and it's accessible by commuter rail. Since parking's the only bad thing I can say about El Sarape, I'll get into the good stuff. The service here is exceptional. True, we do know a lot of the... More

You may be put off by this ghost town of a neighborhood, but the food and atmosphere are good.Nice menu, stellar cocktails. Authentic Mexican experience.

Don't be put off by the neighborhood-"Weymouth Landing". The street and the storefront certainly are not inviting. Ignore that. Go inside and enjoy a very friendly, warm Mexican neighborhood feeling. It doesn't have the "gourmet" feeling of Boston's Casa Romero nor does it need it. The mole poblano is complex, rich and comforting. We've been there when there's music and... More

For over 20 years this has been our "go to" restaurant almost weekly. They have excellent gourmet Mexican dishes and very friendly servers. Suddenly they raised their prices on all the food and a small carafe of Sangria became expensive enough that we are now drinking water! We are disappointed because we considered El Serape a great place for a... More

We have been going to el sarapes for about 25 years, have gotten to know the owner, his wife and staff. Love the food but some nights the food & services is not as good as other visits. We have also noticed that the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten smaller. Love the sangria but it has... More

My boyfriend think's this place is the best mexican restaurant ever, I however, think it's just good. They have delicious, pretty authentic, meals. I am vegetarian and they don't have many options for me there. So I find myself getting the same thing every time so there's a lack of variety.

Consistently good Mexican food. Service can be a bit slow when it is busy. Many great choices on the menu from the bean soup to shrimp with salsa.
