Classic old New England...and that's (mostly) good

The Dolphin has been a fixture in Barnstable Village for generations. A friend aptly described its atmosphere as "classic old New England without being kitschy." The dark paneled walls are accentuated by quirky nautical pictures, and the narrow bar area is a haven for lawyers and judges from the... read more

in Barnstable and with just enough time for a late lunch, and I happened upon the Dolphin Restaurant. Quite a varied menu. Good bar. Warm decor. Old Cape Cod feel. Very "down home" feel -- and with an excellent kitchen. I chose to have, of all things ... grilled knockwurst, baked beans and brown bread! Excellent sour kraut. I could... More

We ate here four times during our last visit-3 for lunch and 1 for dinner. The clam chowder is one of the best in the area and my god, the hazelnut crusted bass was sublime. Lovely wait staff and very cozy. Another local favorite of mine.

The Dolphin Restaurant is a old fashion type of place right in the center of Barnstable. The décor is quaint and homey and not all ritzy and that suits the place fine. It's a casual restaurant for families that has really good food at really good (for Cape Cod) prices. The service here has always been prompt and friendly in... More

The Dolphin has been a fixture in Barnstable Village for generations. A friend aptly described its atmosphere as "classic old New England without being kitschy." The dark paneled walls are accentuated by quirky nautical pictures, and the narrow bar area is a haven for lawyers and judges from the courthouses across the street. I enjoyed a wonderful Easter dinner there... More

As a kid and having our boat in Barnstable Harbor my family chose to go to The Dolphin. It had a nautical decor, the food was good, and the price comparable to other good restaurants in the area. Now as an adult I frequent the restaurant several times a year. Each time I have thought it was not up to... More

Cozy place in a cozy village. Seafood is always good. Can get a little crowded especially in summer. Mostly locals

We came here for dinner Saturday night on 3/14/15. We were seated and ordered a bottle of wine while we looked at the menu. After we ordered the food took a long time to come out and it turned out to be cold, like it had been sitting out for awhile before the waitress brought it over. The waitress who... More

My husband and I ate at the dolphin because it was close to where we were staying, and we are glad that we stumbled up on it. It was classy and laid back at the same time. Really good food/drinks and service. If we ever make it back to Barnstable, we will be back!

This is a local meeting ground. The food is sometimes OK, sometimes not. The service is sometimes OK and sometimes not. The drinks are sometimes OK and sometimes not. They charge you different prices for the same drink depending on who is working. The kitchen doesn't care if you like the food or not. No one really cares if you... More
