The food at Ruan Thai is the closest thing to Thai food in the Silver Spring area. Lunch & dinner portions are good at reasonable prices. As others have noted, parking is an issue and you WILL get towed if you pick the wrong spot. The restaurant has been around for a very long time and has always been consistent... More

A suprisingly nice restaurant (physically at least) lies behind the facade of strip mall on Amherst, walking distance to the Metro. The array of choices was extensive, the prices quite reasonable. On the other hand, there was nothing really special about the food (which is the reson most of us go to restaurants). Pad-tai was a bit dried out; the... More

This is another one of those great Thai places in Wheaton. Everything that I've had has been great. The only downside (if there really is one) of this place is the parking. Not much of a lot (plenty of street parking around) but it seems that the businesses to the left (dry cleaner, etc.) will have your car towed ASAP... More

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in a little "off the grid" strip mall in Wheaton. Our introduction was by using a "Groupon", but we have returned again and again. Best Chicken Panang I've ever had and the house special HOW MOK TALAY (Baked seafood combination in red curry sauce) is amazing! Try the Yum Watercress appetizer (Deep... More

Went there to eat the Yum Watercress appetizer which has received great reviews. In fact, it is very good, EXCEPT, the vinegar-based sauce sat at the base of the plate and eventually became overpowering. I poured the sauce out myself. It would have been excellent were the sauce came on the side only. My other dish, the tofu-wrapped crabmeat, was... More

In an area saturated with decent Thai restaurants, you gotta be on your A-game to stay around. The winning dish at this restaurant is their spicy duck with lime (Yum ped yang) which is to die for! Don't bring your vegan when ordering this dish, the smell will drive them up the wall! Saturated with a healthy amount of both... More

I've heard great things about this restaurant but unfortunately was disappointed with our meal. We went after 9PM on a sunday night. the restaurant was still pretty crowded, which I took as a good sign. We tried three dishes-the Tom Kha soup with shrimp (tasty all around), the pork belly with string beans (major disappointment-basically deep fried fat with very... More

We meet up here for a family dinner. Although, they were very busy on a random Thursday night, the food was great. Probably the best satay & pad Thai I've ever eaten. I wouldn't suggest the steam dumpling or drunken noodles. Generally, pleasant and happy staff who seemed to care ( they knew my family by name) and made sure... More

This is your nondescript suburban strip mall which is where some of the best and most reasonable Asian food is to be found. Signs warning about parking are a major design element but you can walk from metro. Go heavy on unusual cold appetizers.

Ruan Thai is felt by many to be one of the best Thai restaurants in metro DC. To us, it's also the neighborhood go-to spot for lunch, dinner or take-out. Alas, recent praise-filled press has lengthened the wait time for takeout or seating on weekend evenings. The fried watercress appetizer is divine, simply divine. Soft shell crab, offered with choice... More
