Friday dinner with friends

Mandalay is popular and informal. We were two couples. One of our favorites among the many ethnic restaurants in the Fenton Street x Bonifont Street area, Mandalay fit our needs tonight. We chose it mainly because it was relatively easy to park at 8pm, we could be served relatively quickly, and... read more

We have gone to Mandalay restaurant and it has consistently been very good. We like medium spicy and food and Mandalay has always delivered. I especially recommenced the vegetarian "Light fried tofu sliced and served with lemon-soy, crushed peanuts, and sesame seed sauce. (Served Room Temperature)."

The food was great, service was excellent however, when we got our check they added 18% gratuity for our party of 5 or more. What if the service was mediocre. The problem, we were not informed of this change and we have been eating here for years. My husband proceeded to talk to the owner who just shrugged, so we... More

Have you had Burmese food before? Probably not. You have to go to this spectacular restaurant. It's in a semi-sketchy edge of downtown silver spring, but it is he best place to eat in the DC metro area. Great for vegetarians and people of all spicy levels. You really can't go wrong with any item. Service is good. A little... More

I also came here with a large group of 16 people for dinner on a Thursday evening. We were treated royally, and we ordered a large assortment of dishes, so we had a good sampling of the food--all delicious. I especially liked the mohigar (soup), ginger salad, and the sweji (dessert). Burmese food is not like much Asian food as... More

Extensive menu of fantastic dishes from Burma. The staff is very attentive and helpful with suggestions. Reasonably priced.

The ginger salad is not to be missed. When I want to eat vegetarian, this is a great option (don't worry, they have other options!).

We had dinner here a few nights ago.... The food was very good for the price. The owners should increase the lighting and shovel the ice on their parking lot and sidewalk. Joe G

Burmese food is a strange mix of Indian/Thai/Chinese/God knows what else. Certainly the dishes you get in a Burmese restaurant won't be "the same old Asian food" that you've had way too many times. So if you want to really try something new, try Burmese. My partner loves a lot of dishes here. I just like two but I'd kill... More

Remember back when it was a doughnut shop over in College Park. This place has really grown up and the food is still amazing. If you have never tried Burmese cooking you are in for a treat.
