We stopped for dinner about 90 minutes before closing and were seated in the courtyard with only one other couple present. Service was incredibly slow as it appeared most of the staff was hanging out inside. It took them about 15 minutes to even get us a menu. It took quite a while for our food to arrive as well.... We ate here on the recommendation of friends. What was great was eating in the courtyard in the back - perfect for an early summer outdoor dinner. NIce atmosphere. Unfortunately, I need more from a restaurant than a pretty place to eat. The food was only so-so. We've been to a lot of different Ethiopian places over the years, and... More

While walking in a quite uncospicuous side street around SIlver Spring Downtown , I stumbled on this unexpected restaurant and decided to have an early dinner ( 19h00). very fast service, good portions, delicious food.the plus are the sympathy and the kindness of the owner. the terrace is fine, not the best view in the world, but the weather was very... We were staying at an Airbnb apartment not far from Bete. Our hosts recommended Bete, and we're glad we tried it. We ate outside which was wonderful during the spring weather. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the meat combination (Doro wet, Alicha Tebis, cooked and sauted collard greens, tibs wot, cabbage and cottage cheese), the vegetarian... More

I came here with my mom and grandmother. I have had Ethiopian before, but had not tried this restaurant. My mom and grandmother were visiting and wanted to give Ethiopian a try. We chose this place because it was located very close to the hotel that they were staying in. When we arrived we were promptly seated upstairs. The server... More

We ate here twice--once for lunch and once for breakfast. We had lamb for lunch with Ethiopian bread which was delicious. The hot sauce on the side had a nice kick to it, if you like spicy food. For breakfast, we tried the Eggs Selse (spicy) and the eggs with ground beef mixed in. They were both really good. The... More

The food here is pretty good. The lentil sambusas are great (when available). The vegetarian combo is pretty good (but not exceptional). But they have a fish dish (tilapia) that is DIVINE. The service varies. Sometimes they are very friendly and sometimes they are not. There is a very nice patio out back and it's a great place to enjoy... More

Bete is located in a little house situated among giant buildings, but its flavors are as big as the urban architecture outside. My dining companion has traveled to Ethiopia several times and has Ethiopian family members, and she said the sambusas were the best she's ever eaten. Although I've never been to Ethiopia, I am a kitfo fanatic, and Bete's... More

A friend and I had a delicious meal. The service was good, and the price was very affordable. My only suggestion is that the yard could be a bit better landscaped. The back yard is such a nice place to eat and it could be so much nicer if it was better landscaped and better groomed.
