A most charming dining spot, the Old Angler's Inn has been immortalized in countless Washington D.C. novels as a romantic winter getaway, sitting before the fireplace and perusing the menu. It is equally glorious in the summer when the main action moves to the incomparable terrace.

Great View, OK Food, OK Service

Old Anglers Inn has been around for decades, and I have been going there for the past 25 years. It is located adjacent to the Potomac River and near Great Falls Park in Maryland. You can often hear the river rapids from the outdoor seating, and there are beautiful trees all around you. 25... read more

Some friends recently surprised us with a dinner invite and my wife and I were thrilled when we learned it was at OAI. This was our favorite regional restaurant for many years when we were located a bit closer. But since moving to South County it has been a while since we dined there. I was very impressed with the... The seating outdoors is very pleasant. On an average day, having a meal there is nice. The food is nicely presented. But that's it. The taste and service are average at best. Prices on special days (such as the Mother's day) are outrageous.

We went to The Old Angler's Inn for a celebration and to take advantage of a Groupon (always a danger sign that a place is in trouble) on a cold night in December a few days before New Year's Eve. Funny, we thought we could see a sign on the way in that called it the "New Old Angler's Inn",... More

We went to Old Angler's Inn for their fixed price, three course Christmas dinner. We were seated promptly, service was good, and the atmosphere was, as one could expect, about as charming and quaint as one could ever hope for in a building over 150 years old. Everyone thought their food was excellent. Items ordered by members of our party... More

This place has a wonderful atmosphere. You can almost feel the presence of all the historical figures who have been there before you. Nice for a romantic evening. Food is good, but almost secondary. If you've never been, go, it's an experience.

My wife and I went here for her birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great, although, the bar was noisy for their happy hour. I had the scallops, and they were phenomenal. My wife had some kind of chicken that had a weird name, and it was good, but chicken is chicken. We will go back. There was an outdoor fire... More

I'm told that the Old Anglers Inn has been an institution in the Bethesda-Potomac area forever (since 1860, the restaurant claims). It does have character and old-school waiters, both of which I appreciate. We were here on a sunny, unseasonably warm day in late November and enjoyed eating lunch outside, just across from the Potomac River. The Old Anglers Inn... More

Food here was quite good: Bread was Awesome, but you have to ask for it, at least during lunch Tomato soup was great The tuna salad with Almonds and olives was one of the best tasting meals I've every had. Very, very good.
