Seeking someplace special for an anniversary is always a daunting task. We heard about Pope's Tavern and, not having visited Oxford for years, decided to take the leap. Pope's Tavern is a a very attractive venue on the first floor of the Oxford Inn. The room is divided into a dining room located to the left of the bar counter... More

We love Pope's and have been coming to Oxford via sailboat for years - this is always our favorite stop! The chef, manager, staff, and food are all excellent and they go out of their way to accommodate you - even coming one very HOT summer day to pick us up via the "Pope Mobile" which is an old British... The resturant is housed inside a historic building. The charm of the dinning room added to the atmosphere. Yes, the main menu is short but they offered at least 5 specials. I choose a special, rockfish which I have never had before. The fish was excellent. My husband ordered steak(he always does), which was more done then he usually orders... More

The menu is reasonably short but has something for everything (except the veggie). We had the chicken and the filet of beef and both were very tasty. The beef was more expertly prepared. The chicken was just a bit over but still lovely. We also both had the BLT salad - just an iceberg wedge with thick cubes of bacon.... More

We had a wonderful dinner here! My chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and my husbands duck dinner were both just about perfect. And my description is not doing them justice, this is gourmet dining. The atmosphere is lovely, service very good.

This restaurant offers a varied menu as well as daily special offerings that are expertly prepared and served by an attentive wait staff. The dining room is tastefully decorated in an intimate setting, located next to a small but active bar. There's a good wine selection available by the glass or bottle. The desserts were delicious. We'd traveled to Oxford... More

We recently visited Oxford, MD in early September and found it to be a friendly, attractive town. The dining highlight was Pope's Tavern at the Oxford Inn. Not cheap, dinner and two glasses of wine each for two people with tip was $150.00. Probably should have bought a bottle but wanted to try two different ones on the great wine... More

My wife and I went there for my birthday dinner. The place was rather small, but, the decor was as my wife would say, "Lovely." We both ordered the chicken marsala. The marsala was very good. The young lady who served the rolls was VERY nice! But, the main hostess was rather stiff. I'm not sure if it is a... More

Our dining experience at Pope's Tavern was extraordinary - the Victorian era dining room and welcoming porch offered a great setting for our dinner. Our waitress Ashley was very friendly, offered helpful suggestions and she made us laugh and feel like we were her top priority. The rockfish ceviche with avocados was beautifully balanced, light and memorable. The sauteed chicken with... More

I went there hearing that the Executive Chef, Lisa was voted as "best chef". I ordered a special of rack of lamb and asked it to be cooked medium. Chefs seem to have a problem these days with lamb or duck breast not fully being cooked. I was with another person who ordered a fish dish. Both came out at... More
