Description: Duarte Rebolo was born in Madeira Island, Portugal, a popular European...
Duarte Rebolo was born in Madeira Island, Portugal, a popular European tourist spot. His career in restaurant service began there and so far has spanned about 25 years. He left Madeira to work for Celebrity Cruise Lines. It was here that he worked with world renowned Grand Chef Michel Roux. It was here that he met his wife Linda, and decided to move to the Washington area. While here in Washington, he worked at The Water Gate Hotel with Jean Louis Pallidin until Jean Louis Left. At this point the Pallidin became Aquarelle and the Chef was Robert Weidemaier. Duarte continued to work at The Watergate until his dream of opening his own restaurant came true. Tavira opened in November of 1999. The cuisine is primarily traditional Portuguese, as well as Mediterranean dishes. It has been given favorable reviews from the Washington Post, Washington Diplomat, The Gazette, Bethesda Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine 100 Very Best Restaurants. Very good Portuguese restaurant

We quite enjoyed our dinner in Tavira, our first time last week. Tucked in the lower level of an office building on Connecticut Ave, even they put a sign (not neon light) on top of the building, you will easily miss it just driving by. I guess people know about this restaurant by words of mouth or... read more

We love the menu - thus, the food! My favorites are the grilled calamari appetizer and paella entree. My husband usually selects a salad or soup and one of their outstandingly prepared fish dishes or paso bucco. The staff add to an always pleasant experience - they are warm, welcoming, attentive and seem to be very happy employees as well.... More

We had been wanting to go back to Tavira for many years. Yesterday we made it and the food was wonderful. We were 3 people and did blow out our budget by ordering cocktails, good wine and a la carte. We did ask to see the one fixed price menu on the back and the special $24 3 course menu.... More

We go to events that do not include lunch at Columbia Country Club. Many of us, many times go to Tavira and we enjoy it totally. It is in the lower level of a few story office building. Our group keeps growing as more are added to enjoy the lunch.

I brought my parents here on their last visit to DC and we all loved the preparation and freshness of our distinct dishes that were all dinner specials. I hadn't been to Tavira in a while as it's not in a central area with heavy foot traffic compared to other parts of the DMV region. However there is convenient ample... More

Four of us (two for the first time) enjoyed an excellent early dinner at Tavira recently. Wonderful sangria followed by perfection in appetizers and main courses. Calamari was not breaded and perfectly cooked. The Portuguese sausage flambe was nothing special. Main - the grouper and clams special was perfectly cooked was were the whole Mediterranean fish specials. One negative -... More

We were a party of four, two of whom had previously ordered and paid for a prix fixe three course meal. The other two, my wife and myself, were in possession of a $20-off coupon. We were informed that the policy of the restaurant was one check per table regardless; we accepted that -- with slightly raised eyebrows. The waiter... More
