Excellent recreation of fantastic Portuguese specialties

Four of us (two for the first time) enjoyed an excellent early dinner at Tavira recently. Wonderful sangria followed by perfection in appetizers and main courses. Calamari was not breaded and perfectly cooked. The Portuguese sausage flambe was nothing special. Main - the grouper and clams... read more

We had been wanting to go back to Tavira for many years. Yesterday we made it and the food was wonderful. We were 3 people and did blow out our budget by ordering cocktails, good wine and a la carte. We did ask to see the one fixed price menu on the back and the special $24 3 course menu.... More

We go to events that do not include lunch at Columbia Country Club. Many of us, many times go to Tavira and we enjoy it totally. It is in the lower level of a few story office building. Our group keeps growing as more are added to enjoy the lunch.

I brought my parents here on their last visit to DC and we all loved the preparation and freshness of our distinct dishes that were all dinner specials. I hadn't been to Tavira in a while as it's not in a central area with heavy foot traffic compared to other parts of the DMV region. However there is convenient ample... More

We were a party of four, two of whom had previously ordered and paid for a prix fixe three course meal. The other two, my wife and myself, were in possession of a $20-off coupon. We were informed that the policy of the restaurant was one check per table regardless; we accepted that -- with slightly raised eyebrows. The waiter... More

First time to Tavira was last Saturday, January 31. The three of us all agreed our food was very good. We had an early reservation (6:15 p.m.) and the restaurant was half full when we got there, maybe 2/3 full when we left. Our waiter (Rene?) was very good with recommendations and overall service. The fish dishes were terrific. We... More

I debated over the rating for a long period of time. After reading the review you may feel my rating based on my experience is a bit harsh, but to actually experience it in person, I was completely appaulled! First, let me start off by saying that I purchased a Groupon dinner for two. It has a preselected menu which... More

I've driven right by Tavira for years and never went in. We had dinner there and the food was good. So was the atmosphere. It lost points on the service. We asked to have the whole fish filleted in the kitchen so the squeamish diner did not have to see it. They said it had to be table side! We... More

It takes a little magic to turn the basement of an office building into a comfortable European restaurant, and Tavira has it. Service is solicitous without being intrusive. Bartender makes the best sangria in town--order a pitcher for the table. Food is delicious. And it's not too loud--a lovely place to go if you want to be able to actually... More
