It was pouring buckets when we stopped at the Imperial for lunch, and we're glad we did. The crab chowder was worth the price of the lunch alone. My wife had the chix salad sandwich, I needed the French Dip to warm up, both servings with terrific side salads that added to the dining experience. We'd go back rain or... More

We were staying the weekend in Chestertown and since we had dined here once before we decided to go again. Unbeknownst to us the Imperial is closing – which we overhead after we had been seated. It will be opened with new owners sometime in the future. I think this reflected on our experience. My husband got scallops and had... More

The quiet town of Chestertown with all of its charming shops is just the place to be on a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon. The best part of the afternoon, though, will be brunch at the Imperial Hotel. My husband and I sat outside in a cute little backyard court area, enjoyed the bloody mary bar (make your own - you!),... I have never eaten or stayed at the hotel, but I have been to the bar at the Imperial. When I picture a bar, I picture a classy old school place, with low ambient lighting, a beautiful display of bottles, and a personable bar keep. This had all of that. And, a perk for me, they had old fashioned cocktails.... More

This old place is so charming and a beautiful place to be. My husband and I are new to town and wanted to check it out but didn't want a full meal. We went to their bar (6 seats) and had a beer and bite to eat. The food was really good, and they had a few local beers which... More

We almost did not go in because there was a grunge bar next door and lots of patrons lingering outside and very noisy. We had to cross the street just to get to where we wanted to go. Some people were eating outside on the sidewalk, but I don't know how they handled the noise. We went in and found... More

The Imperial Hotel in Chestertown has undergone many personalities. These days, it's no longer a hotel (the upper floors are going to be lawyers' offices and one big penthouse, which is a big loss for the town, which needs rooms for travelers!), but the restaurant is under the same ownership as it was. That's not changing. The place is terrific... More

Eating here feels like eating in your eccentric southern grandma's house. The restaurant is divided into a series of smaller rooms as well as outdoor dining and it's all very charming. The food is fine and some of the servers are better than others. Some things are reasonably priced, others, not so much. We live in Manhattan so are used... More

Just back from dinner and had to dash off a quick review. Great job! The scallops and asparagus risotto with tarragon cream can stand up to any restaurant in the country. Keep up the good work. Wish I'd had room for dessert! You're doing everything right.

We have enjoyed brunch here many times over the last several years. We enjoy the ambience (especially the patio out back), the novel/Eastern Shore-influenced menu, and the make-your-own Bloody Mary bar. Portions tend to be on the smallish side compared to other restaurants, but they are adequate for us (we generally feel most restaurants overdue it). We generally find our... More
