A Solid Neighborhood Choice

Mussel Bar is a solid choice for brunch or dinner if looking for a restaurant in downtown Bethesda. The staff is nice and generally attentive, but the service is not consistent, and there is room for growth. The food has not disappointed us yet. The mussels are an obvious good choice.

Living in the neighborhood we frequent the Mussel Bar during the warm weather when we can sit at the sidewalk tables either for lunch or an early dinner. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. My only negative comment would be that I personally do not care for the ambiance inside the restaurant.

Limited menu. I had the tartar duo served as a square about 3x3x1 half of which is ahi and the other salmon. Very flavorful, but for $15 you could do better at a sushi bar. For my dinner I had the spicy lamb wood-fired pizza. First thing you will notice is that it is very deficient in terms of the... More

I love this place. The have a great balance of great food and an atmosphere for a great dinner with a fantastic bar scene. They balance to two very well. Of course the mussels are hard to beat here but their pizzas and wine /beer lists are fabulous as well. It's a great place to go

Went there for brunch with my wife and 5-yr old daughter. Order pizza and mussels in classic wine sauce. Boy were the mussels good! Cooked to perfection, really worth of their name: mussel bar. And what a beer list they have, even for dark beer. Usually you are lucky if you can find one in a regular restaurant, unless you... More

Very fun atmosphere, great cocktails, really friendly staff. The steak frites was one of the best versions of that dish I've ever had.

Started the night with a fun salty dog cocktail with vodka & grapefruit juice. For appetizers we had grilled calamari, French onion soup, lobster bisque & crab dip. They were all perfect. My salmon with truffle oil polenta was impressive. Others enjoyed the house steak and flat bread pizza. The portions were the right size - not overwhelming. We headed... More

It's called a Mussel Bar so why aren't the mussels a star? They're so so. Much better at other venues in town. It's seems as though it's a 20's hangout on weekends, and they drink so probably don't know what they're eating. These are certainly not up to the name. And the steak is no better!

For a place which specializes in Mussels and with competition down the street that does Mussels better(with really awesome frite as a bonus) it's hard to recommend this as an option.
