North, South, East & West India: A Delightful Lunch

We had a hankering for Indian food and settled down to lunch at Passage to India surrounded by lovely portraits of pre-Colonial era royalty and scenes of ancient battle. Unlike at any Indian restaurant I've been to before, the menu was organized by not only North and South Indian, but also by East... read more

We love Indian food. We are from New York City and they have lots of the best Indian Restaurants. We are even been quite pleased by another Indian restaurant on Wisconcin Ave. (no names here). Everyone was quite satisfied at The Passage to India. It was surprisingly empty when we arrived but our friends are Washingtonians. They told us it... More

Although this Indian restaurant does not get the buzz that others do it has it all - a menu that is a virtual tour of India - excellent preparations - interesting decor - good service - and fair prices. Why go elsewhere

We decided to stay home on New Year's Eve and try something different. Having moved from NY, where we enjoy good Indian food, we decided to give Passage to India a try, with modest expectations. We were very pleasantly surprised! Three out of four dishes presented flavor profiles better than we had in NY. Our only critique (?) is that... More

Four of us for dinner, plus an infant. They found us a perfect booth sort of off to ourselves so as to avoid the baby possibly bothering anyone. We shared two appetizers and four different entrees. All delicious and perfectly prepared. No duds. But one real stand out:the chicken tikka masala. Absolutely the best I have ever eaten anywhere. Topped... More

Okay, I'll admit up front that I'm not a fan of dishes with curry, or cumin really. So why am I dining at an Indian restaurant? To humor my newly wedded daughter and her husband who rave about this particular restaurant. Must say that in the end I'm the humored one. The staff here obviously aim to please, preparing my... There are many Indian restaurants in this area, and there can be a "sameness" to their offerings. The food in these different restaurants is generally good but often it tastes as if it all could have been made in the same kitchen or using the same recipe. We had not been back to Passage to India in a long time;... More

Passage to India has an excellent concept, a menu organized by regions of India. The restaurant is decorated in eclectic Indian style with elegant white table ambiance. Service is attentive and helpful. We really appreciated the variety of flavors in our foods, superior to any Indian restaurant we been at in the Washington, DC area, including certain highly praised downtown... More

I am Indian and I don't usually eat at Indian restaurants as I find them pretty generic. Passage to India offers dishes from four quadrants of India. For those who are not familiar to Indian cooking besides chicken tikka masala, this is the best place to try different cuisines of India. Bohri Murgi was the best chicken I ever had... More

Grew up eating Indian food, moved around the U.S. always hoping to find good Indian restaurants and have been successful. However, this was not a good experience at all. The decor is interesting, the staff attentive and the food was dreadful. The chicken chunks in my Coorgi Murg were not quite rock hard but dense and extremely chewy. I felt... More
