Caramel dishes are great. This restaurant tries hard to be fancier than most Vietnamese places, but ends up being overpriced for what you get.

This is a very good meal and it is not filling. Service is okay.
I was visiting from out of town, and happened upon the Green Papaya with a cousin. Vietnamese food done with a nice flair; clean flavors, with a bit of a French accent. Nice service, and quiet dining room, added to the enjoyment at this lovely place in busy Bethesda.
A midweek dinner for 4 was just excellent. Frankly, if you don't like spicy Asian food or if you can't appreciate the many versions of spicy, this would be a bad choice. But if you do and can, then you'll love this place. Food aside, it's beautiful inside. Then there's the food. The soups were delicate and properly hot (in...

This Vietnamese restaurant supposedly had good reviews, and is well located in an area filled with restaurants and movie theaters. We had reservations for a Sunday evening for 8 people. I was super excited to try Green Papaya because I had never had Vietnamese food before. I love all types of asian foods so I was sure it would be a hit.

We hadn't made reservations and showed up around 6:30 on a saturday....

I think this is a good restaurant but for some reason my husband doesn't like it. Not sure why. THe food is good and the place is pretty, but i guess it's not that memorable a place to eat. But I'd still go there.
Green Papaya has an extensive menu of Vietnamese dishes, and a substantial specials and appetizers menu that changes frequently. Be sure to order one of the carmelized entrees. The food is fresh and nicely spiced, and the presentation is also good. I've been there about 6 times, and have never had a bad meal. Also, the drinks are great and...

The rice paper appetizer was exceptional as was the peanut dipping sauce. The wait staff didn't seem too thrilled with me being a single diner.
The food is still consistently quite good. Newer places get more ttention, but this old standby still delivers decent thai food at a good price.
