A Bethesda classic which recently moved to another Bethesda Chinese classic location. Extensive menu but food only fair. Service grumpy. Some decline in overall quality and atmosphere from previous very popular location.

Don 't confuse this place with the bland restaurant that used to be at this site! Truly delicious food , sophisticated preparation and convenient to Bethesda hotels and neighborhoods. This is where I am coming next time I am not on the mood to cook!

In its larger quarters, this venerable home of Chinese food brings the same quality at reasonable prices.

We heard from friends that Foong Lin had reopened and were so happy to have them back in our area! The restaurant is larger and has a nicer decor (chandeliers!). The food is still very good, we always order the orange beef, ma po tofu, pan-fried noodles, black bean shrimp, and hot/sour soup. His pickled cabbage(appetizer) is authentic Chinese and... More

Even though I live in NJ, Foong Lin has always been one of the best Chinese restaurants that I have ever eaten at. My family were regulars at their previous location and was very disappointed they had to close. I was very excited to find out they were able to re-open at a new location and had a wonderful dinner... More

In response to the previous reviewer, I think it's officially The House of Foong Lin. That's what the menus say. Many dishes looked familiar because we were regulars at Foong Lin when our children were young. Tong Ting Shrimp still very good with large shrimp not overcooked and veggies bright and crunchy. Peking duck carved tableside is still delicious and... More

Visited Moon Gate (soon to be renamed The House of Foong Lin) last night and had another great meal of roast pork with pan-friend noodles, pan-fried dumplings, BBQ spareribs (Mr. Fu just installed new equipment in the kitchen so the ribs could be seared properly). My wife had Crab Rangoon (her favorite) and fried rice. Consistently great food. So happy... More

Foong Lin Restaurant of Bethesda closed a few months ago after after decades. The owner, Mr. Fu, was regularly cited among the "Best of Bethesda" restaurants and I have eaten Chinese food at his restaurant virtually every week since 1991. I have been missing his delicious food for the past few months. I am DELIGHTED to say that he has... More

For someone on a low sodium diet, eating in many Chinese restaurants can be challenging. Moon Gate is extremely willing to make ingredient substitutions and the dishes are still delicious. Been in the same location for years, they have a regular clientele. They are convenient to a public lot that is free on weekends and holidays and very near the... More

But we found the space very average and and the food nothing special. Several large family/friend groups were at the restaurant, so clearly it is well-liked locally. Would not go again.
