Great all around

The food was awesome and the service was even better. It is a small place and very pleasant. Off the beaten path but very much worth walking a side road for.

It may be authentic Italian food but it seemed like an expensive version of chef boyardee. Room was very noisy and service was slow.

Bethesda has tons of restaurants, but none of them feel like they're a neighborhood institution. Pines of Rome definitely feels like that. The place hasn't changed in decades which gives it its charm. With that said, it could use some improvements. Our service was pretty bad, it took 15 minutes to take our order, then when it came it was... More

This Italian restaurant seemed to date from half-a-century ago. Located in downtown Bethesda, it is fairly sizeable but has a pretty dead ambience. Our waitress rarely smiled, appeared to be just doing her job. My wife ordered some sparkling water, but it never came until we reminded the waitress near the end of our meal. The calamari were tough and... More

My wife and I found this nice cozy place. The food was very good. I had a small pizza with pepperoni and sausage. My wife had pasta with calamari .

Awesome consistent food! Great service! The best white pizza with fontina cheese! Great peppers, mushrooms, beans, whole fish, linguine with clams, spaghetti with meatballs. Great warm atmosphere, and wonderful for groups, and casual, come as you are warm, great food!

If you are in the mood for reasonably good Italian food that fills your stomach without emptying your wallet, Pines of Rome in Bethesda, MD is the place to go. Its ambiance is not exactly suitable for impressing a business acquaintance, a first date or a discerning spouse; in other words, it is plain and simple. What you don't find... More

The meal we had the evening we visited the restaurant was unremarkable---can't even remember what I ordered but not fine cuisine (even by Italian restaurant standards.) My husband does frequent the restaurant and has had several good experiences.

From the surroundings, you would expect candles in Chianti bottles on each table. The meal and service and atmosphere were OK. The veal, average plus; the shrimp, not fresh. If we had stopped there, I would not write the review. But I asked the waiter about dessert. They do not serve tiramisu. I picked cannoli. A mistake. Bad mistake. Forget... More

Yes, family has gone here for years. Yes, there is nothing fancy to say about the decor. Most importantly, Yes, it is the VERY BEST white pizza with fontina you will get anywhere. The Carbonara is a favorite as it is preferred with olive oil rather than a cream sauce. Hope the rhum cake is available and save room for... More
