If you are in the mood for reasonably good Italian food that fills your stomach without emptying your wallet, Pines of Rome in Bethesda, MD is the place to go. Its ambiance is not exactly suitable for impressing a business acquaintance, a first date or a discerning spouse; in other words, it is plain and simple. What you don't find... More

The meal we had the evening we visited the restaurant was unremarkable---can't even remember what I ordered but not fine cuisine (even by Italian restaurant standards.) My husband does frequent the restaurant and has had several good experiences.

From the surroundings, you would expect candles in Chianti bottles on each table. The meal and service and atmosphere were OK. The veal, average plus; the shrimp, not fresh. If we had stopped there, I would not write the review. But I asked the waiter about dessert. They do not serve tiramisu. I picked cannoli. A mistake. Bad mistake. Forget... More

Yes, family has gone here for years. Yes, there is nothing fancy to say about the decor. Most importantly, Yes, it is the VERY BEST white pizza with fontina you will get anywhere. The Carbonara is a favorite as it is preferred with olive oil rather than a cream sauce. Hope the rhum cake is available and save room for... More

Very authentic Italian, excellent service. Stayed at Hilton Garden Inn so the Pines of Rome was only 93 meters away. Worth a try. JC from Wisconsin.

It had been a while since I had visited Pines of Rome, but the fact is, it's still one of the best red checkered Italian restaurants around. The white pizza w/ fontina is the best you will find. Decided to try the red sauce pizza and that may be the better kept secret. Great thin crust and delicious with a... More

We have been eating here for over 30 years and even continued after we moved to Virginia. It's about a 45 minute drive from our house but worth the trip. Our children and grandchildren have come to love it as well. It's where we go for family get-togethers. White pizza (without cheese), white beans and fried zucchini are a must... More

I love the Pines of Rome. I have been going there for 42 years and just went back last night for the first time in 7 years. IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME! The white pizza with fontina - succulent; the fried zucchini - light and lemony; batter fried soft shell crabs - to die for; rum cake - ethereal (provided... More

So I am hoping we were there on a bad night but I'm not sure. We heard great things about Pines of Rome but found the food pretty lackluster and boring. The Chicken Parmigiana was a large chicken breast that looked and tasted like it had been deep fried, had a slice of cheese slapped on it and a dab... More
