In our ideal restaurant classic vegetarian dishes would be made from locally grown organic produce effused with Indian and Nepalese spices. Meats would be cooked high over hot charcoal in a tandoor (a traditional clay oven) allowing fats to drain, thereby lowering their cholesterol content. He would cook with olive oil, make his own yogurt and bake bread as ordered. Shangrila restaurant would serve the simple fresh, organic, flavorfully spiced foods that a mother would cook if she came from New Delhi or Katmandu.

Well prepare and tasty

I ordered onion stuffed naan bread and chicken korma. The bread was stuffed with the right amount of onions. The onions were soft and mild and were perfect in the bread. The chicken korma was delicious. The chicken was tender and not dry. The sauce was mild and creamy. I wish there was more... read more

We placed a delivery order at 615pm, and by 745 pm, we still did not have our food. We then cancelled the order. Everyone who answered the phone while we called to check on the order was unapologetic. The worst.

I'm always interested in trying a new gastronomic experience. I had the Nepalese veg thali and my dinner companions indulged in various lamb and vegetable dishes. I was delighted to discover some delicious differences between Indian and Nepalese cuisine. All in our party enjoyed our respective selections. Service was attentive, portions generous, and prices reasonable. Only one very minor nit... More

I walked in off the street for dinner not knowing what to expect. I adore Indian food, but was unfamiliar with Nepalese. It sounded like some sampling was in order, so I ordered the vegetarian Thali. At $21.99 for dinner, it was more than I wanted to spend, but oh what a treat! I got a delicious nutty flat bread... More

The food was delicious. We ordered the non veggie thali_ and a lamb dish that is half baked in tandoori oven then cooked in tomato and spices. That was our favorite. Unlike a prior reviewer who said it was cold, it was very comfortable. The only complaint was that all the tables had flowers should probably have been thrown out... More

We went to Shangri La for Mother's Day and were not disappointed. This was our first time here and believe me, we will be going back. The food was amazing and the servers top-notch! The restaurant is small but not crowded...and everyone seemed happy probably because the food was so satisfying. If you are a lover of Indian cuisine, this... More

Icy cold overly air conditioned, disinterested service, (we were completely ignored after placing the order), almost empty (we are early birds) but despite this there was no welcome, or thanks. The food was good, but nothing special. Dinner for two, with tip and tax, not including wine was $50 and not worth it.

I had not experienced fine Indian cuisine until last evening. Friends who have been here before took me there for dinner, and it was an excellent experience.

I have had lunch at this restaurant during every visit to Bethesda with a friend (she has lunch here at least once a week). The buffet style offers a great selection of choice and it is always delicious. It is great value for money.
