We stayed in one of their cabins for four nights in mid-September and enjoyed the experience totally. Hotel serves excellent breakfasts and dinners, at reasonable prices, and the staff is most friendly and helpful. Wine list was short but excellent.Grounds are on the water and filled with Adirondack chairs and Croquet fields. Obviously owned and run by people who care.

We had been recommended by a local to dine here as the food was good. But it wasn't. Fairly tasteless and expensive. The service was OK but the receptionist is unfriendly - when we asked if we could book a window table she said "No" - you can only get one for sure if you come as soon as they... More

We have dined at Claremont for several years and usually the food has been very good. The dining room is beautiful old time elegant with amazing view of the harbor. two nights ago we were very very disappointed to have lousy food in this beautiful hotel and dining room. Who ever was cooking must have been reading how to cook... More

Went there for dinner and we are glad we did. The food is great with good ingredients prepared simply to respect their taste. Was not as busy as the other places In town which was nice. It was a peaceful experience and the view of the sound is beautiful. Don't miss it.

The location and view were exceptional. If looking for a classic Maine old fashioned hotel, this is for you. Room small in main lodge but bed very comfortable and private bath nice. No air conditioning but provided with large fan, as it was very hot. On site restaurant very good with excellent wine selection.

The service was decent, the atmosphere very nice, but the food was very disappointing. My swordfish was a thin slice, overcooked, covered with some kind of awful seeded crust which simply made it worse. The tomato mozzarella salad was not what one expects at all. My wife's fish was also disappointing...mediocre food is not what one expects at these prices.... More

So incredibly pleased with the service, food, selection, view. Everything was top notch! Coming from Nantucket, we were pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable prices too! Our dinner was incredibly romantic, I believe the staff could tell how happy we were and they respectfully allowed us all the time we wanted to enjoy our appetizers, dinners and 2 desserts (I'm... The Claremont's flagship restaurant is named " Xanthus," which is also the first name of the Civil War artist whose painting of this hotel hangs on the wall in the hotel's parlor. The staff is more laid back nowadays than it was in the late nineteenth century when the hotel welcomed its first guests. I noticed that hotel guests swinging... More
