decent food in an "old time" inn

The restaurant is OK and service was fine although a bit slow. If you drive to Bass Harbour you can probably do better. Ordered soup, crab stuffed portabello (not a lot of crab meat), salad and a glass of wine. Ticket was $32

This place is about 10 miles from Bar harbor but a world away from the hustle and bustle that can occur in Bar Harbor. The dining rooms are comfortable and service is always good. The menu varies a bit but always has scallops on it; they are baked with a little breading and not overcooked. One of the daily special... More

Thank you for your great review. We always have scallops and also they are local scallops caught right of the Western side of this island. Much of our seafood comes directly from island fishermen and we support them and their families. Our restaurant has a large selection of local seafood dishes. Our gardens give us many local products also and... More

After touring the coast and seeking out fresh seafood, we stopped at this eclectic inn and restaurant. The wait was minimum, but the food was delicious! The scallops were divine as well as the atmosphere. Our waitress was topnotch and friendly despite a busy lunch crowd. The restaurant is small, but oh my goodness the tiny restroom should be enlarged.... More

Scallops we have. We buy only locally caught scallops from one fisherman on the island. This way, together, we can control the quality. His boat is located in Bass Harbor and goes out daily bring us the best we can buy. Other seafood is done in the same manner including, lobsters (Andy Mays), Scallops (Lucas Lemoine), mussels and oysters (Evan... More

Large well equipped room. Very clean. Even had a small kitchen area (beware the toaster starts off the fire alarm). It was just as well that the room had a small kitchen because we couldn't find a cafe in South West Harbour that opened for breakfast before 10.00, so we had to buy sufficient food for breakfast at the local... Thank you for your review. With all the breakfast places around, and my problem getting out of bed at 5 am, we have decided not to get into the breakfast scene. We can get noisy in the restaurant and that's why our two separate dinning rooms work. The inn has been re -done many times since 1923 serving as a... More

We enjoyed our meals, and the server was very patient, attentive, and give us very good information on the menu choices. I enjoy salads, so I ordered the salad with the addition of broiled scallops. It was delicious. The salad part could be larger, but it was topped with a lot of large scallops which made the meal filling. The... More

Thank you for your review. Scallops, we have and lots of them. Our scallops come from Blue Hill Bay and are by far the best around as we have one fisherman who sold exclusively to us. Lobster, scallops, mussels, and oysters are all caught local and we buy them directly from the person catching them. This ensures us the best... More

This was my second visit to the Dry Dock after 2007 and, like back then, it was only my second choice, with the restaurant around the corner closed (2007) or fully booked (2014). Once again, I had no reason to curse fate for this turn of events, though, as I was very happy with my experience here. The Martini and... More

First of all you need to make our restaurant your first choice. We are open while others close after the season. We have really good local seafood and cut our own steaks. We grow some of our vegetables and herbs. Our hamburgers are ground fresh everyday from our local market. Our clam chowder is the best on the island and... More

Where to eat in Mid-October........My wife and I were staying in Southwest Harbor for a few nights and decided to hit up all the spots to eat. We ate at Cafe Dry Dock on a Tuesday around 7pm. It.It wasn't busy when we got there, but filled up closer to 8. Small but decent draft selection (beer wasn't "ice" cold, but... More

Thank you for your nice review and enjoying your meal here. We have been in the chowder business so long that we can make it in our sleep. I do all the beer selections and as a local restaurant we have a lot of local favorites with some area mico brews. Our beer cooler is large and doubles as a... More

Melissa was sweetly attentive to us and so warm - as was the fresh-baked bread that almost melted in our mouths. My husband's a steak & potatoes guy, so the fillet and the garlic mashed potatoes hit the spot. And my sautéed lobster was to die for. Lastly, the fresh-baked blueberry pie a la mode was sinful. We stopped here one night for dinner. We had the scallops which were fantastic. The corn and the rice on the side was also very good. We had two local brews, I don't remember what they were. Mine was very dark and my husband was a lighter ale. They were delicious. Service was great. We would recommend this place. Prices... More

Thank you for your great review. I have to agree with you that we have the best scallops. I buy all of them from the same fisherman who lives intown. They are from the lower end of Blue Hill Bay on the western side of the island. Scallops are our number one selling menu item and we have to make... More
