John is BACK!

I was delighted to read that John Conte is back in action again so we scheduled a trip to Spruce Head Pizza to once again experience the seafood genius that is beyond equal. This is the place to go for the real New York Italian pizza. Done in the traditional way with plenty of flavor. The owner is from Brooklyn and we love their Greek Pizza. They also share the space with Conte's Italian restaurant. A very popular local chef with quite a following. Not too fancy, but plenty of great food. Menu... More

We had seen the episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations in which he features John Conte's old digs and were intrigued. We went tonight for dinner and it was delicious! We had the swordfish steaks with Puttanesca sauce (amazing!), the day boat scallops in chili pepper oil, split whole soft shell lobster, Norwegian Haddock with Fra Diavolo sauce and our... More

Tipped off to this by another vacationer and what a great meal!! Fine dinning meets pizza parlor, meets plastic dinner ware: and it works! Seafood pasta with choice of wonderful sauces!! Huge portions served with extra the chef throws in. Add great bread, salad and samples of other creations - all great, and there you have it. You can get... More

Despite the flowery acclaim, Conte's cooking could at best be described as rustic. I'm not complaining, I'm a return customer that enjoyed the ambiance and most of the usually over garliced seafood, salads and peasant bread, but could do without the ridiculously large portions of watery pasta. Sadly, Conte's has relocated to this Pizza joint. We walked in and talked... More

We ate here once a week for the entire summer so far! It was devastating to learn that John Conte had closed his restaurant in Rockland in the Spring, so when the grapevine told us he was now at Spruce Head Pizza cooking his incredible sautéed seafood dishes with pasta, we were there with friends and out-of-town guests!!! Nothing disappoints,... More

Came here in hopes to get the experience of having a meal from the Legend of John Conte. The meal did not disappoint! There was about a 45 minute wait for our food due to Conte cooking up one ticket at a time. However, the wait was worth it. Not only did we get to watch the controlled chaos in... More

growing up on NY/NJ style pizza, I consider myself a pizza snob! Well, this place hit the mark for sure! Who knew you could find REAL pizza this far away from the city?! Fantastically delicious with no pretense, paper plates & plastic utensils, but that didn't take away from the great taste of authentic cheese and flavorful crust. A true... More

Grew up eating NJ/NY pizza and who knew you could find it up in Maine! The pizza was authentic and I was transported to the city with the 1st bite. Looking around at other dinner orders, the portions were huge & looked just like grams used to make paper plates and all. A definite place to return to when you... More

We were riding around peninsula the day before and I saw the sign, turned around but it was.closed. On Wed. evening we came back at 6:30, to once again taste the food creations of John Conte. His restaurant in Rockland closed earlier this year, but he has aligned with Sruce Head Pizza. Good pizza crust, sauce and cheese, znd add... More
