The problem with Chinese food in Maine is that most folks have never had REALLY GOOD Chinese food so you might think this stuff is pretty good. Let me tell you, it's nothing special. The dumplings are doughy, the soups and sauces are goopy, not light and flavorful, and there's just nothing memorable about ANY dish imparticular ... anymore. At... More

This was my 4th or 5th trip to Imperial China. I ordered take out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. At home, as I was pouring the food from the container to a plate I noticed a dime-sized bug sitting in my moo goo gai pan! I was not pleased whatsoever. We threw out the... More

Average menu, not too adventurous. We stopped here for a quick and easy lunch. Dumplings were a bit thick and doughy. The main course Mango duo was delicious. Our waitress was most accommodating. The restaurant needs a cosmetic upgrade. It seems dingy and old, not in a good way. .

I've tried Imperial twice in the last few weeks. Once for take out and once dining in. The wonton soup is my favorite, it has much more flavor than many of your Chinese restaurants. The lunch combos are very reasonable ($6-$8) and come with soup. Service was quick and attentive. This is now one of my go-to Chinese restaurants in... More

We finally returned to Imperial China recently. My husband & I each ordered hot & sour soup & Mongolian Beef. Soup was very good. We liked the Mongolian dish except for the fact that it contained ONLY beef & onions. However beef was good quality & sauce was very good. Later we returned again & each ordered Twice Sauteed Pork.... More

Seriously. Our first visit, we ordered $60 in take-out. 2 of the 4 entrees had to be put down the disposal because they were disgusting beyond anything I've ever eaten in over 30 years of Chinese take out. When I say not fit for a dog, I mean we offered our dog a piece of the jumbo "amazing" shrimp, and... More

The food is always terrific, and the servings are enormous. We usually share a meal when we go for diner. The lunches are just the right size.

For years, Imperial China has been serving decent Chinese food near the Maine Mall. It has all the usual choices -- hot and sour soup, chicken wings, General Tso chicken, etc. The luncheon specials are particularly good value, soup, dish, rice, and fortune cookie. Service is efficient without being brusque. So, if you don't want to eat at the food... More

I am not a huge fan of Chinese food but this is, without question, the best Chinese restaurant in the Portland area and i have been told it is the most authentic.
