great and creative mexican fusion cooking

This is a restaurant we make sure we visit at least once during our stay in Deer Isle. The food and drinks and desserts are always good and interesting. The family who runs it really know about food and are friendly too.

While on vacation we had heard good things about this restaurant so we drove there for lunch. Not easy to spot so we turned around and found it tucked behind a bright yellow house. The "restaurant" is actually in a large shed/barn with four small round tables and nine metal chairs, in a small area before the serving bar where... More

Even though this is one of the most popular places to eat on the Peninsula, don't believe the hype! There are other places...so go there. (For the rest still reading, the food is awesome and the vibe is superb. Please stop recommending this place to your friends/acquaintances that write whiny reviews about how they "know Mexican food", their unfulfilled bathroom... More

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent visit to EL EL FRIJOLES. Research undertaken by Tripadvisor indicates that responding to reviews, both negative and positive, can often show both potential and existing customers that the owners/management are engaged, are listening and are interested in providing excellent customer service. So believe me when I tell you that... More

I really don't like this place. I know they try hard but I've spent too much time in Mexico and the southwest of the U.S. to pretend to like food that is frankly a little gross. The tortillas are jam-packed with rice and beans that is somewhat tasteless and the meat is wedged in somewhere but nothing like as spicy... More

Delicious. Leftovers hold great in the fridge. Owners are super nice. The salad with homemade dressing was especially great.

We have been going here for the last few summers and my taste buds are much better than my thought waves. Took me a few weeks to get the joke, but only a few seconds to realize what exceptional food Michelle and Michael were producing. The ingredients could not be fresher and give new meaning to the whole local food... More

Something for everyone. We had delicious enchiladas. It is a good thing that they have some things not too spicy but they could make some a bit spicier for folks who like this. Nice folks who are owners are the cooks and they do a great job and are very personable.

We loved El El Frijoles. The lobster burrito was great and so was the crab quesadilla. It could have been a bit spicier, but I like spicy! The tables and screened area are adorable. There's a little slide to keep the kids occupied, too. One suggestion would be to open up a window to take orders so that the inside... More

We've tried to like El El's for years, but every time I go, I'm left feeling....blah, bland....I could've made a tastier burrito at home, even with the salsa bar. Maybe they are trying to accommodate non-spicers and figure adding salsa will satisfy people who like flavor. But when the food isn't seasoned in the cooking process, it just feels flat,... More

Stopped here while doing field work (from UMaine) since I'd been hearing so much about it. Line was out the door when we got there, but they did get all the food orders out quickly. Here are some thoughts: - PLEASE get salsa verde in your salsa bar! - Jalapenos in the burritos would be awesome - The meat is... More
