After a traffic-jammed, six hour road trip to Rockport, my husband and I craved comfort food. We didn't want to eat out of take out boxes and we didn't want to dress up. Our gracious host at the Schooner Bay Motor Inn suggested The Helm restaurant and it was definitely a wonderful dinner recommendation. The Helm's atmosphere is genuine and... More

The outside of the Helm goves the atmosphere of just another restuaurant but don't let the cover fool you. It is lacated in a highly tourist area Maine and may not be as attractive as others from the outside BUT, it is a favorite for locals. Once you step in the atmosphere becomes vey homey (my preference), service is great... More

I have been going to The Helm restaurant for well over 20 years. What happened to this place? The food was once really good. Last year I was very disappointed in the quality of food coming from the takeout. Decided to give them one more chance and dined inside tonight. Big mistake. To set the tone, the hostess was very... We've been here before (last year) - gone down hill. Salad bar had a hair in cottage cheese. Server had no response when this was called to her attention. Haddock Oscar (a special of the day) was dry with little crab. AC was ineffective. Won 't be back.

Winter has ended and my taste buds are ready for Pork Chops - Parisiennes Pork Chops to be specific. A perfect meal to toast the end of winter. Next meal is stuffed haddock. The salad bar is worth the visit. And don't forget desert.

The staff at The Helm was super friendly, and the food was delicious. They had a chicken alfredo on special, but my girlfriend wanted some kind of seafood in the alfredo rather than chicken. The waitress was very accommodating and asked the chef, and came back and told us they could make it however she wanted - shrimp, salmon, crab,... More

The Helm is one of the best values in the area--particularly if you get one of their many early bird specials. I had a haddock parm with two vegetables and bread for $9.95 and added the salad bar for $3.00. Where can you find that on the mid-coast? The salad bar is a topic in itself--there is not much that... Generous portions at great prices. AWESOME salad bar! Never disappointed, have been loyal customer for 20 years. Locals don't lie! look at the license plates in the parking lot!
