Once you find the place, you will love it. We had read quite a few reviews, some good, some bad, so we didn't know what to expect. What you get...dive bar atmosphere with great food. We had the lobster and salmon. Both were wonderful, large servings. WIne was passable but that just fit the whole theme. I would go back... More

As many before us we learned of Conte's via Anthony Bourdain and wanted to experience it for ourselves. I have to say John Conte and his crew outdid our high expectations. Conte's is unlike any "restaurant" you've probably ever been to and that's not a bad thing. Order when you walk in, sit at tables with newspaper for tablecloths, and... More

Contes is a one of a kind place. The atmosphere is rustic and the service surly but the food is fabulous. Don't come here expecting anything but great food and a unique experience.

Best meal I've had in a very long time, and it was in the "dive iest" hole-in-the wall I've ever eaten in. If you can deal with old newspapers for tablecloths and funky plastic (but comfy) chairs in a tiny room, you'll be treated to the tastiest Italian seafood dinner. Warning, the food is served in pyrex pie plates, in... More

In the are with some friends who suggested having dinner there. So glad we did. I loved the staff, especially Raven, the ambiance, the food, the layout, the decor! So totally original that it will stick non my mind for a long , long time. Can't wait to introduce some friends to it! I have to say that because of... More

Bring your appetite! Great fresh seafood served on pasta. Menu is posted at the door, you order your food and are seated. This is not a fancy place-really does not seem to be updated since 1894! No changing of the menu and bring cash because they do not take credit cards.

We laughed so hard reading the reviews of this place, and reading articles about John Conte, that we had to go to Conte’s. I made sure I knew how to find the restaurant by doing a drive-by in the morning. Sure enough, his sign was down on the ground, and other than an OPEN flag, you would never know it... More

This restaurant is for the adventurous foodie. Place is a hole in the wall with a limited but delicious seafood/pasta menu on a blackboard. Kitchen is visible upon entry which might scare you away but hang in there! Food is plentiful and delicious. Newspaper on the tables. Food is served in pyrex dishes which overflow. Waitress - Janice was hysterical!

If you like seafood, Italian cuisine, and an informal setting with friendly but irreverent service, Conte's is the place to go in Rockland. Don't expect to be catered to or pampered! You won't get a white, linen table cloth. What you see is what you get, but the seafood is fresh and well-prepared. Order at the door, grab a beer... More

We are frequent year-round visitors to Rockland, Camden and surrounding towns and always looking for a new restaurant and dining experience. Recently read about Conte's 1894 Restaurant and after reading the reviews, decided to try it. It was everything and even more than recent reviews described! We arrived at 5:00 on a Friday night and got in right away. The... More
