After touring the Farnsworth Museum, we were looking for a place to eat lunch. There are several restaurants within a block or two and the museum gift shop even gave us a list. As we walked around, we just happened on the Brass Compass and went in. On the museum's list it's categorized under "diner" and that is what it... More

We used to live in Rockport, ME and we always enjoy a good breakfast at The Brass Compass, and usually run into someone we know!

This place is not going to win any awards for its breakfast or lunch cuisine, but if you are hungry and want a quick meal (assuming there isn't a wait), this is a good choice in Rockland. Otherwise, if you have time to wait, go to "Home Kitchen Café." If you don't mind ordering at the counter, go to "Hole... More

I don't eat here often, but in the past I've been marginally satisfied. Not wowed, but satisfied. This is diner food, make no mistake about that. And all the hype about the Bobby Flay lobster roll, well, don't let that lull you into a false sense of believing that everything else here will be similarly spectacular. And without that throw... One of my favorite things to do is go out for breakfast, and the Brass Compass is one of my favorite places to go. The service is exceptionally prompt, the staff super friendly, and the down-home food is spot-on. If you are looking for comfort food at its best, then plan on stopping here for breakfast!

My wife and I stumbled upon this gem as we drove from Portland to Bar Harbor on highway 1. My wife needed to use the restroom so we stopped at the Rite Aid (which has no restroom). As we walked down the street to find a restroom, we walked past this quaint cafe and got a huge whiff of delicious... More

Only wish it wasn't so crowded - I would have loved to sit outdoors on the beautiful day we were there! The food was terrific, the prices really reasonable, and the service endlessly smiling!

Came here on the recommendation of a docent at the local art museum. We started to sit outside, but they cannot serve beer there because it is city property so came back inside. Ordered from our server who was from the area and really nice sharing info about being raised on an island 30 miles out by here fisherman father... More

We had watched the Bobby Flay lobster clubThrow Down with the owner of Brass Compass so when in Maine we had to stop. We enjoyed the lobster club more than the get-it-everywhere lobster roll. The lobster club at Brass Compass was exceptional. Tasty. HUGE. We got one and shared it. We were stuffed. It's a family affair. We were waited... More

Stopped by the cafe with our lobsterman friend, Virgil. Cute decor. Crowded with locals and town visitors. Interesting menu as they have two prices....regular and senior. We all chose the fish n chips, sr plate. It arrived and at first sight we thought they had let it brown a bit too much. We're we wrong. The plate yielded a huge... More
